Abstract: A carrier tape includes a longitudinally extending central portion having pockets formed therein. Each pocket respectively comprises a plurality of sidewalls and a bottom. First and second side portions are disposed adjacent to opposite sides of the central portion and extend longitudinally therewith. Each of the first and second side portions includes a respective adhesion zone that is spaced apart from the central portion. Discontinuous raised features disposed between and contacting adjacent pockets. The raised features each respectively extend between the first and second side portions and include a transverse raised platform terminated at opposite ends by first and second longitudinal ribs that are integrally formed with the raised platform. Adjacent pairs of adjacent raised features are separated from one another by first and second collinear transverse channels. A carrier tape assembly included the carrier tape, a cover film, and electronic components disposed in the pockets of the carrier tape.

Abstract: Cover tapes for securing electronic parts in a carrier tape are provided. The cover tape includes opposing edges extending along a longitudinal direction of the cover tape orthogonal to a transverse direction, and first and second layers. The first layer is stretch-oriented along the longitudinal direction at a first stretch ratio, and the first and second layers are stretch-oriented along the transverse direction at a second stretch ratio greater than the first stretch ratio. The cover tape further includes a first major surface extending along the longitudinal direction and between the opposing edges, the first major surface including a plurality of linear depressions extending along the longitudinal direction. The cover tape is hand-tearable along each linear depression. Also, assemblies and methods for making cover tapes are provided.

Abstract: Multi-layer cover tape constructions include a polymeric substrate with a low adhesion backsize coating layer on one surface and an adhesive layer on the other surface, with a conductive film construction adhered to a portion of the adhesive layer such that portions of the adhesive remain exposed. The conductive film construction includes a polymeric substrate with an exposed layer of abrasion-resistant, electrically conductive nano-scale graphite coated by buff coating. Other multi-layer cover tape constructions include a polymeric substrate with a low adhesion backsize coating layer on one surface, and an exposed layer of abrasion-resistant, electrically conductive nano-scale graphite particles coated on the other surface. Stripes of adhesive are present on a portion of the electrically conductive coating such that portions of the electrically conductive coating remain exposed between the adhesive stripes. Carrier tapes include a plurality of indented segments for accommodating electronic components and are releasably sealed by a cover tape.
