Abstract:
An imaging method enabling spontaneous, single-site implementation of, and control over, the execution of an imaging job employing the combinable native functionalities and related user-accessible controls of plural, currently available, imaging-related instrumentalities. This method features the steps of (a) establishing, with respect to a selected plurality of such instrumentalities, an appropriate instrumentality-intercommunication capability, (b) utilizing that established capability, enabling the suitable presentation, adjacent the location of at least one of such instrumentalities, of an active user combinational interface which, in relation to a user-intended imaging job, provides, via that interface, user-chooseable selection access to different functionalities and control combinations drawn from the availability of all of such instrumentalities' functionalities and controls, and (c) in response to interface designation-invocation by a user of such presented and combined functionalities and controls, executing the imaging job in the context of utilizing all of the so-user-chosen functionalities.
Abstract:
In an exemplary method, an imaging device that is logically connected to at least one host computer system receives installation of a firmware upgrade. The firmware upgrade includes at least one new feature that is not accessible to the host(s) without a driver upgrade. The firmware upgrade includes the driver upgrade and/or driver upgrade information. In response to receiving installation of the firmware upgrade, the imaging device identifies the host(s) to which it is logically connected. The imaging device sends the driver upgrade and/or the driver upgrade information to the host(s).
Abstract:
A method for filing a data file from an imaging device using removable storage is described. A data file is received with a first format and a second format. A determination is made if the first format is a known format. A data converter is accessed to convert the first format to a known format if the first format is unknown. A determination is made if the second format is a known format. The data converter is accessed to convert the second format to a known format if the second format is unknown. The data file is filed to removable storage.
Abstract:
A method for segmentedly encrypting the data in a document print job in a manner which preserves options for post-rendering analysis/processing of selected non-content components, and a print job which comes into existence as a consequence of implementation of this method. The method includes identifying and individuating, within such a job, the content commands as distinguished from the non-content commands, and then, as a consequence of such identifying and individuating, encrypting only data contained within the content commands. In one manner of practicing the invention, all data in the content commands is encrypted. In another manner of such practice, only data which is contained within the content-field portions of the content commands is encrypted. The resulting print job, in one form, is characterized with (a) an encrypted part which includes only data contained within content commands, and (b) a non-encrypted part which includes the balance of data contained within the job. In another form, the resulting job is encrypted only with respect to content-field portions of the content commands.
Abstract:
A method for pull printing a document wherein the rendering is initiated at a printer is disclosed. A document on a computing device is located from a printing device. A message is sent to the computing device to print the document with at least one print option. The document is rendered at the computing device into printer ready data using the at least one print option thereby providing a rendered document. The rendered document is de-spooled to the printing device. Another print option is processed on the printing device. The rendered document is printed on the printing device.
Abstract:
A method for efficiently handling image data may involve creating an imaging job that includes image data corresponding to an outputting operation that is to be performed by an imaging device. The method may also involve determining whether the image data includes one or more reduced size images in addition to one or more full size images. The method may also involve determining whether the one or more reduced size images are satisfactory for the outputting operation. If the image data includes the one or more reduced size images in addition to the one or more full size images, and if the one or more reduced size images are satisfactory for the outputting operation, the method may involve despooling the one or more reduced size images to the imaging device without despooling the one or more full size images to the imaging device.
Abstract:
A method for managing printer settings is described. Physical printers in electronic communication with a network are discovered. Installed printers, configured with a printer driver, are discovered. The physical printers are associated with the installed printers. One or more default print settings are specified. The one or more default print settings of at least one of the installed printers are updated.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for determining when to download a resource to a printing device as part of a print job are disclosed. An exemplary system includes a computing device. The computing device includes a processor and memory in electronic communication with the processor. Instructions are stored in the memory. The instructions are executable to implement a method that involves generating a print job for a printing device. The method also involves generating a resource index. The resource index includes a list of at least one resource referenced in the print job. The method also involves associating the resource index with the print job. The method also involves spooling the print job.
Abstract:
A method for dynamically constructing a user interface definition is disclosed. A request for an information list is sent. The user interface definition with the information list is received. A filter script is applied to the user interface definition to provide a filtered user interface definition. The filtered user interface definition is sent to an application. The filtered user interface definition is constructed. The filtered user interface definition is displayed.
Abstract:
A method for modifying settings in printing a document is disclosed. Document data is provided that comprises multiple graphical elements. The document data is converted into printing instructions. At least one setting is applied to the printing instructions. A preview is presented of the printing instructions to a user through a graphical display. The method enables the user to select a specific graphical element from the preview and to change the setting to a new setting. A device specific rendering is simulated using the new setting. The user is provided with the option of saving the new setting.
