837,191. Nuclear reactor control rods. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 14, 1945 [Sept. 9, 1944], No. 23836/45. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(4). A gas-cooled, graphite moderated nuclear reactor in which the fuel is in rod form and mounted in horizontal channels, has controlling members which are flexible and may be extended or controlled, within the reactor by external control systems. The control members which are located in horizontal channels, may be either linkages or coiled springs, both of which may be stretched or controlled by an external force. Alternatively, the controller may be in the form of a metal bellows which may be dilated or contracted by gas pressure. Boron steel or cadmium plated steel may be used. Specification 817,751 is referred to.
