Abstract:
There is provided a catalyst for the purification of exhaust gases from industrial processes and motor vehicles by combustion of oxidizable impurities contained therein to carbon dioxide and water and removal of nitrogen oxide at elevated temperatures in contact with air consisting essentially of a calcined mixture of eta and gamma aluminum oxide and heavy metal oxide compounds the element chromium and at least one other heavy metal selected from the group consisting of nickel or copper with nickel, the quantity of such heavy metal oxide compounds being 55 to 90 weight percent, the molar proportion of the chromium to the other heavy metal being between about 1:0.5 and 1:2.5 calculated as oxides and the majority of the particles of the heavy metal oxide compounds being of a size of from 0.5 to 5 Mu , whereby the heavy metal oxide compounds have been formed by precipitating chromium from a solution of ammonium bichromate with a soluble salt of said other heavy metal or metals, and whereby said calcining of said mixture having been done at 400*-800* C., preferably in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.
Abstract:
A catalyst for the oxidation of alkenes to unsaturated aldehydes and carboxylic acids containing Ni, Co, Fe, Bi, P, Mo and O is improved by adding tantallum oxide or samarium oxide. The catalyst can be employed on a carrier.
Abstract:
A process for preparing an oxidic, carrier catalyst comprising at least one heavy metal compound as active component, said process comprising providing a carrier comprising a temperature resistant material with a catalytically active coating by intensively mixing said carrier with a binding agent, and at least one pulverulent, oxidic heavy metal compound or with a pulverulent mass containing at least one of said oxidic heavy metal compounds or at least one hydroxyl group-containing precursor of said heavy metal compounds, and subsequently heating the resulting mass to remove said binding agent. The catalyst and the process of using the catalyst in the purification of exhaust gases are provided.

Abstract:
Alpha , Beta -unsaturated aldehydes are oxidized to Alpha , Beta -unsaturated carboxylic acids by contacting the Alpha , Beta -unsaturated aldehyde with air or oxygen and steam at 200*350*C and at atmospheric or elevated pressure in the presence of a catalyst so as to convert the aldehyde to the corresponding carboxylic acid. The catalyst comprises a mixture of oxides of the elements antimony, molybdenum, vanadium and tungsten and/or compounds of said elements and oxygen wherein the atomic ratio of the elements is as follows: 1 to 60 : 12 : 0.5 to 25 : 0.1 to 12. The catalyst is made by intimately mixing under agitation aqueous solutions or suspensions of the oxides or other compounds, for instance antimony oxide, ammonium molybdate, ammonium vanadate and ammonium tungstate, and possibly a carrier material and preferably bringing the mixture to boiling point, then separating the catalyst mass from the aqueous phase, drying it and calcining it at 225*-275*C, followed by heating in air for 15-60 minutes at 350*-475*C.
