Abstract: A light shielding structure of an optical circuit of the present invention uses a part of the structure of the light reception element itself to suppress stray light. A stepped electrode that covers an upper surface and side surface of a first semiconductor layer constituting a light absorption portion of the light reception element is formed at a height substantially equal to that of an optical waveguide in the optical circuit, and the light absorption portion of the light reception element is shielded from stray light by a wall-shaped or column-shaped wiring electrode extending substantially perpendicularly to a surface layer of the optical circuit. The light shielding structure of the present invention uses a part of the configuration of the light reception element, is formed integrally with the light reception element, and also has an aspect of the invention of the light reception element.

Abstract: An objective is to provide an integrated optical module which can avoid positional change and separation of a PLC chip when humidity changes. Provided is an integrated optical module characterized in that the integrated optical module includes: a PLC chip; a seat bonded and fixed to part of a lower surface of the PLC chip with an adhesive which is applied to an upper surface of the seat; and a support portion supporting the seat, in which a groove where an adhesive overflowing from the upper surface of the seat is to stay is formed in an upper surface of the support portion at a portion surrounding the seat, the upper surface of the seat serving as an adhesion surface.

Abstract: In the case of implementing a polarization separation circuit, a polarization rotator, and the like by inserting a thin-film element into a substrate in one optical interference circuit, one common large-sized groove shared among a plurality of thin-film elements for their insertion has been formed. The optical waveguide type device of the present invention is configured such that at least one groove intersects only one corresponding optical waveguide for inserting the thin-film element and does not intersect other optical waveguides adjacent to the one corresponding optical waveguide. This groove substantially has a rectangular shape, and has a minimum size adapted to the thin-film element to be inserted so as to stably hold and fix the thin-film element in the groove. Adjacent grooves are formed so as to be arranged such that their portions in a direction substantially vertical to the optical waveguide are facing each other.

Abstract: A flexible substrate having a branch structure in the related art has problems in that: adhesive strength after two bodies are folded and fixed at a bonding region decreases due to an unfolding and opening force at a curve portion and ends of the bonded portions are peeled off and generate gaps; and in a soldering process of the two bodies, the electrodes of one body soldered first are displaced due to reheating in soldering the other body secondly and deteriorate in soldered connection. The present invention provides a new flexible substrate having a branch structure, including first and second bodies joined together, and having a structure in which one of the bodies can be folded back in a longitudinal direction of the whole flexible substrate. Tip ends of the two bodies are provided with multiple electrodes, and are connected by soldering to approximately corresponding positions on both surfaces of an end portion of a printed substrate concerned.
