Abstract:
A device for coating a support of a synthetic material with a layer of a lacquer for particular use in manufacturing magnetic tape. The device includes a pouring slit through which the lacquer is forced into a pressure chamber formed on its upper side by the support base. The lacquer is temporarily stored in the pressure chamber. Means are provided for tensioning the support and causing it to be guided along the stored lacquer. A smoothing side is arranged downstream from the chamber and the support with the adhering layer of lacquer is guided along the smoothing side in such manner that the parts of the support in front of and behind the smoothing side form an angle. The pressure in the pressure chamber can be controlled by controlling the angle, the tensile stress and the quantity of lacquer supplied per unit of time so that the thickness of the layer is also controlled.
Abstract:
THE INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD OF PREPARING METAL POWDERS MAINLY CONSISTING OF IRON AND MEANT FOR MAGNETIC RECORDING BY REDUCTION OF AN IRON OXIDE OR AN IRON OXIDE HYDRATE AND IS CHARACTERIZED IN THAT A MEASURED UANTITY OF SILVER IS PREVIOUSLY DEPOSITED ON THE MATERIAL TO BE REDUCED. AS A RESULT OF THIS THE REDUCTION SPEED IS ALSO CONSIDERABLY INCREASED SO THAT THE REDUCTION OCCURS AT SPEEDS WHICH CAN BE USED IN PRACTICE ALSO AT TEMPERATURES LOWER THAN THOSE AT WHICH SINTERING OF THE FORMED METAL PARTICLES WHICH IS DISTURBING FOR THE APPLICATION IN VIEW TAKES PLACE.
Abstract:
A METHOD OF PREPARING MAGNETICALLY STABLE IRON POWDER SUITABLE FOR MAGNETIC RECORDING IN WHICH IRON OXIDE HYDRATE, A-FEOI(OH) IS PRECIPITATED FROM A STRONGLY REACTING ALKALINE SOLUTION OF FERROUS HYDROXIDE CONTAINING AT LEAST ONE COMPOUND OF AT LEAST ONE METAL SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF GERMANIUM, TIN AND ALUMINUM IN SUCH A CONCENTRATION THAT THE ATOMIC RATION OF THE LATTER METAL TO FE IN THE SOLUTION IS A LEAST 0.005 WHILE PASSING AN OXIDIZING GAS THROUGH THE SOLUTION. THE PRECIPITATE IS THEREAFTER SEPARATED FROM THE LIQUID, WASHED, DRIED, AND REDUCED IN HYDROGEN AT 250* TO 500* C.
Abstract:
A METHOD OF COATING A SUPPORT BASE OF A SYNTHETIC MATERIAL, WITH A LAYER OF LACQUER FOR PARTICULAR APPLICATION IN MANUFACTURING MAGNETIC TAPE. THE LACQUER IS FORCED THROUGH A POURING SLIT INTO A PRESSURE CHAMBER WHERE IT IS TEMPORARILY STORED IN CONTACT WITH THE SUPPORT BASE. THE SUPPORT IS GUIDED ALONG THE STORED LACQUER UNDER A TENSILE STRESS AND THE SUPPORT WITH THE ADHERING LAYER OF LACQUER IS THEN GUIDED ALONG A SMOOTHING SIDE IN SUCH MANNER THAT THE PARTS OF THE SUPPORT IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND THE SMOOTHING SIDE FORM AN ANGLE SO THAT THE LAYER IS EQUALIZED.
Abstract:
Iron powder suitable for use as a magnetic recording medium is prepared by first subjecting a finely divided iron oxide or oxyhydrate such as Alpha -Fe203, gamma -Fe203, Alpha -Fe00H, gamma -Fe00H or Fe304 to the action of a 0.002 to 1 molar solution in water of stannous chloride and thereafter reducing the iron oxide or oxyhydrate, preferably in hydrogen, followed by stabilizing the iron powder thus obtained.
