Abstract: Method and apparatus for removing residual magnetization in a data transducer, such as a recording head used to write data to a recording medium in a data storage device. A residual magnetization sense circuit senses a residual magnetization of a pole of the data transducer as a result of the application of a data transmission current to the transducer. A demagnetization current generator removes the residual magnetization by supplying the transducer with a demagnetizing current that decreases to a final magnitude in accordance with a selected profile. The demagnetization current preferably comprises a bi-directional, time varying current of selected frequency to the transducer that tapers linearly, exponentially or in a step-wise fashion to the final magnitude. The demagnetization profile is preferably continuously adapted during operation. Preferably, the sense circuit and demagnetization current generator are incorporated into a preamplifier/driver circuit which performs the demagnetization operation in a self-contained fashion.

Abstract: A game is provided which combines the elements of chance and coordinative skills. An elevated gaming surface is provided. Cooperatively mounted in the lowest end of the gaming surface is a game piece launcher. The game piece is a marble, steel ball or the like. The launcher includes a spring biased projector and a launch pad which is elevated and helical. On the upward end of the gaming surface are a plurality of annular concentric rings including scoring means for computing the score given to a launched game piece. Covering the gaming surface is a rigid transparent cover having an underside of predetermined configuration for cooperating with a projected ball and thereby guiding the projected ball in relation to the scoring indicia provided on the gaming surface. Tilting of the game surface causes return of the game piece or pieces to the starting position after computation of the score.

Abstract: The vacuum clamp for supporting a tool is a releasable support for holding a tool against a workpiece or work surface. A gasket is secured to a lower surface of a vacuum plate, and the gasket is adapted for forming a releasable vacuum seal with the work surface. The vacuum plate has a vacuum port formed therethrough, allowing air to be selectively removed from the chamber defined by the gasket, the vacuum plate and the work surface, thus securing the vacuum plate to the work surface by vacuum. A tool support is mounted on the upper surface of the vacuum plate for supporting the tool, and a plurality of spacers are further provided for adjustably spacing the vacuum plate from the work surface.

Abstract: A torque transferring device is provided having a rotating drive shaft and planetary gear sets that are linked to a rotating chamber, keyed to the drive shaft, to turbomachinery within the chamber. Fluid is fed to the chamber through an axial passage in the drive shaft and is compressed by a number of mechanisms, including set of pump blades, turbine and reaction blades initially driven by the drive shaft and its starter motor. Bubbles within the fluid are subjected to high pressures causing combustion to occur within the bubbles. Additional pressure created by the combustion of the bubbles drives the fluid to exert a torque on the drive shaft through the gearing mechanism, thereby generating power.

Abstract: A transportable modular flotation system with sections incorporating a decked supporting structure that is buoyed by heavy duty flotation tubes. The sections are coupled together with pre-tensioned ropes, straps or cables of High Modulus Fiber. The system is suitable for off-loading items from cargo ships in small harbors and onto remote beaches. One embodiment is a heavy-duty lightweight modular causeway system (LMCS™) that is rapidly deployable and recoverable from a Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV).
