Abstract: Processes for the hydrogenolysis of butane are described. A process can include (a) introducing a butane feed and hydrogen to a first hydrogenolysis reactor comprising a hydrogenolysis catalyst, and (b) contacting the butane feed and hydrogen with the hydrogenolysis catalyst at conditions sufficient to produce a first hydrogenolysis product stream. The introduction of the butane feed stream and hydrogen to the first hydrogenolysis reactor can be controlled to maintain a hydrogen to butane molar ratio in the reactor inlet of 0.3:1 to 0.8:1.

Abstract: A catalyst includes a zeolite, wherein the zeolite has: a CHA framework; a particle size less than or equal to 100 nanometers; and a silica to alumina mole ratio in the range of about 50:1 to about 150:1. The catalyst can include a metal dopant. The catalyst can be used for purifying a product by flowing a reactant across the catalyst to form the product; and condensing or separating the product. The product can be an olefin or alkenes with an increased carbon chain. The catalyst can be used for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide or a gas to liquid reaction. A method of producing the catalyst can include selecting the concentration of a crystal growth inhibitor based on the ratio of the silica precursor and an alumina precursor such that the zeolite crystals have a mean particle size less than or equal to 100 nanometers.

Abstract: A process for producing olefins comprising introducing butane feed (n-butane, i-butane) and hydrogen to hydrogenolysis reactor comprising hydrogenolysis catalyst to produce a hydrogenolysis product stream (hydrogen, methane, ethane, propane, i-butane, optionally n-butane, optionally C5+ hydrocarbons); and feeding the hydrogenolysis product stream and hydrogen to hydrocracking reactor comprising a hydrocracking catalyst to produce hydrocracking product stream (hydrogen, methane, ethane, propane, i-butane, optionally n-butane), wherein the amount of i-butane in the hydrocracking product stream is less than in the hydrogenolysis product stream, and wherein the amount of ethane in the hydrocracking product stream is greater than in the hydrogenolysis product stream. The hydrocracking product stream is separated into first hydrogen stream, first methane stream, first C2+ gas stream (ethane, propane), first C4s stream (i-butane, optionally n-butane), optionally C5+ stream; and the first C2+ gas stream is fed to gas steam cracker to produce a steam cracker product stream comprising olefins (ethylene, propylene).

Abstract: A process for producing light alkanes and creating a flexible distribution system for those alkanes and related systems are disclosed. The process can include supplying a butane feed stream to a butane conversion unit to produce a light alkane output stream including at least methane, ethane, propane, and hydrogen, separating at least part of the light alkane output stream into separate streams of methane, ethane, and propane and distributing the separated streams as desired. The distribution of the separated streams can include sending the separated ethane and propane streams to downstream processing units which use them as feedstock. The butane containing feed and/or unreacted butane feed can include isobutane, which can be converted to n-butane and then further processed.

Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for obtaining ethylene and propylene products from, for example, shale gas and shale gas condensate feedstocks. These systems and method operate by utilizing a hydrocracker train to crack C4 and C5 hydrocarbons to a product stream of propane and ethane or using a hydrogenolysis train to process C4 and C5 hydrocarbons to a product stream of propane and ethane that is provided to a cracker for an efficient conversion to ethylene and propylene. The disclosed systems are configured to reduce the amount of offsite hydrogen needed and also provide product streams that include a well-defined set of products as compared to existing approaches.

Abstract: A chemical reactor system includes: a feed; a methane oxychlorination catalyst, wherein a product of an oxychlorination reaction is dichloromethane; and a dichloromethane conversion catalyst, wherein the dichloromethane conversion catalyst provides a product stream having a dichloromethane selectivity less than 5%. The addition of the dichloromethane conversion catalyst to the reactor bed can decrease the amount of dichloromethane produced and increase the amount of monochloromethane produced. Accordingly, dichloromethane does not have to be separated from the product stream and the monochloromethane can then be used to produce other products, such as olefins.
