    Abstract: Provided is a display device including a backlight; a first liquid crystal panel; a display panel; and a second liquid crystal panel. The first liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate, a first liquid crystal layer containing first liquid crystal molecules, and a second substrate. The second liquid crystal panel includes a third substrate, a second liquid crystal layer containing second liquid crystal molecules, and a fourth substrate. The display device satisfies the following formula: |φ3−φ1|≥50°, wherein φ1 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of the first liquid crystal molecules near the first substrate with no voltage applied to the first liquid crystal layer, and 43 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of the second liquid crystal molecules near the third substrate with no voltage applied to the second liquid crystal layer.

    Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel including in the following order an active matrix substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a counter substrate. The active matrix substrate includes in the following order a first electrode and a second electrode including a first linear electrode portion extending in a first direction. The counter substrate includes a third electrode including second linear electrode portions extending in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a fourth electrode including an island-shaped electrode portion as a floating electrode. The island-shaped electrode portion is disposed between the second linear electrode portions in a plan view, overlaps an optical aperture of one of two pixels adjacent to each other along the second direction, and does not overlap an optical aperture of the other of the two pixels.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate including a first electrode and a second electrode configured to generate a transverse electrical field; a counter substrate including a plurality of third electrodes disposed at predetermined intervals and having a stripe pattern; a liquid crystal layer located between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate; and a control circuit. The liquid crystal display device can display an image in a first viewing angle mode and a second viewing angle mode having a viewing angle narrower than the first viewing angle mode by the control circuit switching an amplitude and a waveform of a voltage applied to the third electrodes. The control circuit applies a common voltage having a different value to the first electrode or the second electrode in each of the first viewing angle mode and the second viewing angle mode.

    Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal panel sequentially including: a first polarizing plate with a first absorption axis; a first substrate including a first electrode; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate including a second electrode. The liquid crystal panel satisfies the following Formula (1) as well as the following Formula (2-1) or Formula (2-2): 5°≤|φ1−φ2|≤20°  (Formula 1) 5°≤|φP1−φ2|≤20°  (Formula 2-1) 65°≤|φP1−φ2|≤80°  (Formula 2-2) wherein φ1 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of liquid crystal molecules near the first substrate, φ2 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of liquid crystal molecules near the second substrate, and φP1 represents an azimuthal angle of the first absorption axis of the first polarizing plate, each with no voltage applied.
