    Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for calibrating a slit width among calibrating apparatuses in a monochromator.There has been the problem that, although the slit width precision of the monochromator has been an important performance item, the calibration of the slit width has not hitherto been performed.This invention employs a bright-line spectrum or zero-order light for the slit width calibration. A peak is found out from among output signals of a lightdetector (20) by means of a peak decision unit (26). The peak value is stored into a memory (28). This peak value and the output of the lightdetector (20) are compared by a comparator (32). The slit width is calibrated on the basis of the quantity of wavelength scanning till the coincidence of both the values.

    Abstract: At least one of the entrance slit and the exit slit of a monochromator is capable of being opened or closed. The light issued from the exit slit when the slit width is changed is detected by a light detector. The slit width is calibrated when the ratio between the maximum value of the output of the light detector and the output of the light detector with the slit being gradually closed subsequently reaches a predetermined value, in other words, when a predetermined narrowness of the slit is attained. The slit width is controlled by a pulse motor or the like. The pulses supplied to the pulse motor are counted by a counter. At the time of slit width calibration, a value corresponding to the particular slit width is set in the counter, thus performing the slit width calibration.

    Abstract: A recording sheet is successively fed in the abscissa direction by means of a sprocket. The recording sheet is previously printed with ruled lines with a predetermined inter-line space in the ordinate direction thereof. The sprocket is driven by a pulse motor. Displacement of the recording sheet from one to the next ruled line corresponds to the number of pulses supplied to the pulse motor. Before the beginning of the recording, a ruled line on the recording sheet is brought into positional coincidence with the recording pen. During the movement of the recording sheet after the recording operation having been started, a counter counts the pulses supplied to the pulse motor and is reset every time when the number of the pulses corresponding to the inter-line space has been attained. Upon termination of the recording, the contents in the counter represents the position of a recording pen relative to a certain ruled line. On the basis of the contents in the counter, the recording sheet is automatically fed in the abscissa direction. Upon occurrence of coincidence between the certain ruled line and the recording pen position, the feeding of the recording sheet is stopped. In this manner, the recording pen is always positioned in alignment with one of the ruled lines on the recording sheet at the beginning of the succeeding recording operation, requiring no manipulatability for the positional alignment.

    Abstract: An apparatus for measuring photoelasticity permitting to control mechanical stress applied to an elastic body, by visualizing phase differences of polarized light transmitted by the elastic body is disclosed. In such a prior art apparatus a quarter wavelength plate was used in order to obtain circularly polarized light. However, the precision of the circularly polarized light is worsened, when it works in a wide wavelength region. To the contrary, in an apparatus according to this invention, circularly polarized light is obtained by means of Fresnel's rhombic body. As the result good circularly polarized light can be obtained for a wide wavelength region from the visible region to the near infrared region and control of products including thin films and semiconductor substrates can be effected by visualizing mechanical stress therein.

    Abstract: In the double-beam spectrophotometer, two light beams, a reference beam and a sample beam, are used. Optical signals in the light beams are converted into electrical signals. The magnitudes of a reference signal and a sample signal are compared. A voltage to be applied to a photoelectric converting means is adjusted on the basis of the difference signal between the larger signal of the compared signals and a reference voltage so that the magnitude of the larger signal is substantially constant. The spectrum displayed by a recorder is obtained by the ratio of the reference signal to the sample signal. Since the larger signal is controlled to be substantially constant, when the sample signal is larger than the reference signal as in the case of a difference spectrum, the photoelectric converting means is not saturated and a wide photometering range is secured.
