Abstract: Implementations are described herein for operating rail-mounted robots in hazardous conditions. In various implementations, a rail-mounted robot configured to inspect a plant with an explosion proof area may include: an actuator to propel the rail-mounted robot along a rail; a battery to provide power to the actuator; a charger to draw power from a power terminal integral with the rail while the rail-mounted robot is in motion, and to charge the battery using the drawn power; and logic to localize the rail-mounted robot based on readings from location indicia distributed along the rail.

Abstract: A wireless gateway system includes a gateway apparatus having a gateway function and including an antenna that wirelessly communicates with a wireless field device, and a power supply apparatus separated from the gateway apparatus. The power supply apparatus converts a voltage from an external power supply to a predetermined internal voltage, supplies the internal voltage to the gateway apparatus, and relays a wired signal in conformance with a first wired communication protocol between an external controller and the gateway apparatus. The gateway apparatus operates using the internal voltage supplied from the power supply apparatus, converts a wireless signal in conformance with a wireless communication protocol received from the wireless field device to a wired signal in conformance with the first wired communication protocol, and transmits the converted wired signal to the power supply apparatus.

Abstract: Implementations are described herein for inspecting industrial facilities using remote sensor packages and wireless access points (WAPs) carried by mobile robots. In various implementations, aspect(s) of an industrial process facility may be monitored using sensor package(s). The sensor package(s) may generate one or more sensor signals, and based on the one or more sensor signals, detect anomal(ies) of the monitored aspect(s) of the industrial facility. Responsive to detecting anomal(ies), the sensor package(s) may modulate a long-range low-bandwidth (LR-LB) signal to indicate detection of the anomal(ies) in the monitored aspect(s) of the industrial process facility. Another component of the industrial facility may identify LR-LB signal(s) representing detection of anomal(ies) by sensor package(s) and instruct mobile robot(s) to travel to area(s) of the industrial facility to receive sensor data carried by a short-range high-bandwidth (SR-HB) signal emanating from that area.
