Abstract: Provided is an electromagnetic wave shielding and absorbing molded article which has an excellent shielding property and absorbency of electromagnetic waves of specific frequencies. The electromagnetic wave shielding and absorbing molded article includes a thermoplastic resin composition containing a thermoplastic resin and carbon fibers. The carbon fibers have a weighted average fiber length in the molded article in a range from 0.05 to 8.0 mm, and the content ratio of the carbon fibers in the molded article is from 0.05 to 45 mass %. The electromagnetic wave shielding and absorbing molded article has a thickness from 0.01 mm to 5 mm, a shielding property of 10 dB or greater and an absorbency of 5% or greater for electromagnetic waves having any frequency in a frequency domain from 59 GHz to 100 GHz.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for efficiently dispersing carbon nanotubes. The method comprises mixing, in parts by mass, 1-30 parts of carbon nanotubes, 0.2-10 parts of functionalized carbon nanotubes and 400-1200 parts of a solvent, adjusting the pH of the resulting mixture to 5-9, and then ultrasonically dispersing the mixture to obtain a stably dispersed carbon nanotube dispersion; the functionalized carbon nanotube is one or more of a carboxylated carbon nanotube, a hydroxylated carbon nanotube, an aminated carbon nanotube, an acyl-chlorinated carbon nanotube, and a sulfonated carbon nanotube.

Abstract: A structural reinforcement for an article including a carrier (10) that includes: (i) a mass of polymeric material (12) having an outer surface; and (ii) at least one fibrous composite insert (14) or overlay (960) having an outer surface and including at least one elongated fiber arrangement (e.g., having a plurality of ordered fibers). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) is envisioned to adjoin the mass of the polymeric material in a predetermined location for carrying a predetermined load that is subjected upon the predetermined location (thereby effectively providing localized reinforcement to that predetermined location). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) and the mass of polymeric material (12) are of compatible materials, structures or both, for allowing the fibrous insert or overlay to be at least partially joined to the mass of the polymeric material. Disposed upon at least a portion of the carrier (10) may be a mass of activatable material (126). The fibrous insert (14) or overlay (960) may include a polymeric matrix that includes a thermoplastic epoxy.
