Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simulate multi-point gesture input by a computer system using a single pointing device. SOLUTION: Simulation software can receive single pointing inputs such as input from a mouse and convert them into simulated multi-point gesture inputs such as finger pinches, reverse pinches, translation and rotation. This simulation software enables a user to use keyboard keys to perform additional control when generating multi-point gesture inputs. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic devices that display structured electronic documents such as web pages on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a portable electronic device with a touch screen display comprises displaying at least a portion of a structured electronic document on the touch screen display, where the structured electronic document comprises a plurality of boxes of content, and detecting a first gesture at a location on the displayed portion of the structured electronic document. A first box in the plurality of boxes at the location of the first gesture is determined. The first box on the touch screen display is enlarged and substantially centered.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus for determining commands by applying heuristics to user gestures detected on a touch screen display. SOLUTION: A method for determining command by applying heuristics includes the steps of: detecting one or more finger contacts with a touch screen display; applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command to a device; and processing the command. The one or more heuristics include: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command; a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command; and a heuristic for determining the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which determines a command by applying heuristics to a user gesture detected on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computing method using the touch screen display includes: a step of determining the command for the device by applying one or more heuristics to one or more finger touches on the touch screen display; and a step of processing the command. The one or more heuristics include a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a linear vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a two-dimensional screen translational movement command, and a heuristic method for determining a command for transition to displaying of respective items in an item set by the one or more finger touches and further displaying of a next item in the item set.

Abstract:
In accordance with some embodiments, a computer- implemented method is performed at a portable multifunction device (100) with a touch screen display (112) and one or more accelerometers (168). The method includes displaying information on the touch screen display (112) in a portrait view or a landscape view based on an analysis of data received from the one or more accelerometers (168). The method also includes detecting a predetermined finger gesture (4402) on or near the touch screen display (112) while the information is displayed in a first view, and in response to detecting the predetermined finger gesture (4402), displaying the information in a second view and locking the display of information in the second view. The method further includes unlocking the display of information in the second view when the device is placed in an orientation where the second view is displayed based on an analysis of data received from the one or more accelerometers (168).
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method, for use in conjunction with a portable electronic device with a touch screen display, comprises displaying at least a portion of a structured electronic document on the touch screen display, wherein the structured electronic document comprises a plurality of 5 boxes of content, and detecting a first gesture at a location on the displayed portion of the structured electronic document. A first box in the plurality of boxes at the location of the first gesture is determined. The first box on the touch screen display is enlarged and substantially centered.
