PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unlock a device having a touch-sensitive display via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display.SOLUTION: The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images for the predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic devices that display structured electronic documents such as web pages on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a portable electronic device with a touch screen display comprises displaying at least a portion of a structured electronic document on the touch screen display, where the structured electronic document comprises a plurality of boxes of content, and detecting a first gesture at a location on the displayed portion of the structured electronic document. A first box in the plurality of boxes at the location of the first gesture is determined. The first box on the touch screen display is enlarged and substantially centered.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more transparent and intuitive user interface for portable devices that enable a user to configure the user interface.SOLUTION: A portable electronic device displays a plurality of icons (e.g., graphical objects) in a region in a touch-sensitive display; detects a predefined user action, with respect to the touch-sensitive display, for initiating a predefined user interface reconfiguration process; and varies positions of one or more icons in the plurality of icons in response to detecting the predefined user action, where varying the positions includes varying the positions of the one or more icons about respective average positions.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device, especially, a portable device for photograph management such as digital photographing, photographing operation, and photographic electronic mail.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a portable electronic device equipped with a touch screen display for photograph management. In one configuration, the portable electronic device relates to a computer execution system method for displaying the array of thumb nail images corresponding to one set of photographic images. The device is configured to displace the array of the displayed thumb nail images with a photographic image selected by a user when a user contact with the corresponding thumb nail image in the array is detected. The photographic image selected by the user is displayed by a scale which is larger than that of the corresponding thumb nail image. The portable device is configured to display a different photographic image according to a scroll operation instead of the photographic image selected by the user. The scroll operation includes the substantially horizontal movement of the user contact with the touch screen display.

When an operation is performed on the object 112, the object 112 has a resolution that is less than a predetermined threshold; otherwise, the object 112 has a resolution that is greater than the predetermined threshold.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which determines a command by applying heuristics to a user gesture detected on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computing method using the touch screen display includes: a step of determining the command for the device by applying one or more heuristics to one or more finger touches on the touch screen display; and a step of processing the command. The one or more heuristics include a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a linear vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a two-dimensional screen translational movement command, and a heuristic method for determining a command for transition to displaying of respective items in an item set by the one or more finger touches and further displaying of a next item in the item set.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the arrangement of a virtual input device onto a touch screen type user interface.SOLUTION: Displays are generated on a touch screen of a computer. The displays include an application display associated with an application executed on the computer and a virtual input device display for allowing a user to give an input to the application executed on the computer through the touch screen. An initial characteristic of the virtual input device display is determined in response to a virtual input device start event. An initial characteristic of a composite display image including the application display and the virtual input device display is determined on the basis of a characteristic of the application display and a characteristic of the virtual input device display. The composite display image is displayed on the touch screen.
