Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for a side chain alkylation in which activity and selectivity are high and service life is long. SOLUTION: The catalyst may be doped by a compound of at least one kind of alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals and contains at least one kind of alkali metal applied onto a spinel compound or an inverse-spinel compound used as a carrier. Weight proportion of alkali metals to the carrier is 0.01:5. When a doping agent exists, weight proportion of the doping agent to the carrier is 0.01:5.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a low-cost iron oxide-containing catalyst for the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene easy to synthesize and having a large pore volume, high activity, selectivity and mechanical stability by using iron oxide obtained by spray-roasting an iron salt solution. SOLUTION: Iron oxide obtained by spray-roasting an iron salt solution is used for producing the objective iron oxide-containing catalyst. At this time, 0.6-1 g/cm3 stamp density and 1-10 m2/g specific surface area are provided. The pore volume of the catalyst is at least 0.2 cm3/g and the average pore diameter (median) is at least 0.3 μm. At least one potassium compound may be incorporated besides the iron oxide. One or more promoters which increase selectivity, activity and stability may further be incorporated and the particularly preferred promoter is a compound of a metal selected form Mg, Ca, Ce, V, Cr, Mo and W.

Abstract: A catalyst containing an alkali metal on a spinel or an inverse spinel as a carrier, which can be doped with an alkali/alkaline earth compound, the weight ratio of alkali metal:carrier being 0.01 : 5; is produced by applying an alkali metal on to the carrier by (i) impregnating the molten alkali metal; or (ii) impregnating the carrier with solutions of alkali metal azide, drying the carrier and decomposing the alkali metal on the carrier; or (iii) impregnating the carrier with ammoniacal solutions of alkali metal and removing the ammonia; the carrier optionally being doped before impregnating with an alkali/alkaline earth metal compound, drying and then calcining.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of producing catalysts, containing iron and potassium and optionally other elements, suitable for the selective dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons to give the corresponding olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbons. In a first step, a finely particulate dry or aqueous mixture of an iron compound with a potassium compound and optionally also compounds of other elements is calcined in such a way that 5 to 50 mu m diameter conglomerates, made up of smaller particles, are produced. In a second step, preferably following shaping, the mixture is calcined at 300 to 1000 DEG C, the maximum calcining temperature in the second step preferably being at least 30 DEG C lower than that in the first step. The invention also concerns the use of the catalysts produced in this way, particularly in the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene.
