Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a highly active catalyst which does not produce a large amount of solid content and requires a simple catalytic process by causing a chemical reaction between an aqueous metallic salt solution and an aqueous cyanomethallic acid solution, both of which are expressed by specific formulae respectively. SOLUTION: An aqueous water-soluble metallic salt solution is expressed by formula I in which M1 is the metallic ion of either of Zn , Fe , CO or Ni2+ , X is the anion of halide or hydroxide and m, n are integers corresponding to the atomic values of M1 and X. An aqueous cyanometallic acid solution is expressed by formula II in which M2 in the metallic ion of either of Fe2+ , Fe3+ , CO , Cr3+ , Rh3+ , Ni or CO , H is hydrogen, A is the anion of halide or hydroxide, and a, b, c are the integers selected so that cyanide is electrically neutralized. These aqueous solutions are caused to chemically react with each other, and further, the reaction product is caused to undergo a chemical reaction with a ligand which can be mixed with water, if necessary and contains a heteroatom. Thus a polymetallic cyanide complex produced consequently is separated from the suspension.

Abstract: Unsaturated nitriles are obtained by dehydration of corresponding unsaturated aldoximes at relatively low temperature in the gas or liquid phase over a heterogeneous basic oxide or hydroxide catalyst, optionally on an inert support. A process for the production of unsaturated nitriles of formula R-C(R )=C(R )-(CH2)n-CN (I) comprises dehydration of oximes R-C(R )=C(R )-(CH2)n-CH=N-OH (II) in the gas or liquid phase at 150-300 degrees C over a heterogeneous catalyst consisting of an oxide, nitride or carbide support doped with basic oxides and/or hydroxides or with compounds which are converted into these under the reaction conditions, or a catalyst consisting of the basic oxide alone. In (I), R, R , R = 1-20C alkyl or alkenyl or 3-12C cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, or two of these groups may form parts of an optionally unsaturated ring; R and R may also = H; and n = 0 or 1-20.

Abstract: Preparation of alkoxylation products of formula (R-COO-CHR -CHR z)mY (III) comprises reaction of fatty acid compounds of formula (R-CO)mY (IV) with alkyleneoxides of formula (V), where R = a 3-29C aliphatic group containing 1-3 C=C double bonds and which may be interrupted by 1-3 non-adjacent O atoms; R , R = H, methyl or ethyl; m = 1-3; when m = 1, Y = OR or NR R ; when m = 2, Y = OR O; when m = 3, Y = O-CH2-CH(-O)-CH2-O (sic); R -R = 1-18C alkyl; R = 1-18C alkyl or 2-18C alkylene; z has an average value of 1-100. The reaction takes place in the presence of a catalyst made from polycation-based mixed hydroxides of formula M(II)1-xM(III)x(OH)2Ax/n.mL (I) or LiAl2(OH)6Al/n.mL (II), where M(II) = one or more divalent metals; M(III) = one or more trivalent metals; A = one or more inorganic anions; L = an organic solvent or water; n = the valency of A, or the average valency, if different anions are used; x = 0.1-0.5; and m = 0-10. The mixed hydroxides are modified by additives selected from the following: (a) aromatic or heteroaromatic mono- or polycarboxylic acids or their salts; (b) aliphatic mono- or polycarboxylic acids or their salts with an isocyclic or heterocyclic ring in the side chain; (c) semi esters of dicarboxylic acids or their salts; (d) carboxylic acid anhydrides; (e) aliphatic or aromatic sulphonic acids or their salts; (f) 8-18C alkylsulphates; (g) long chain paraffins; (h) polyetherols or polyetherpolyols; (i) alcohols or phenols; or (k) aliphatic 4-44C dicarboxylic acids or aliphatic 7-34C monocarboxylic acids. The additives may be moulded in solid form with the catalyst, optionally using binders. Also claimed are the products (III).
