    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape by using a tube filled with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. SOLUTION: A skin tube E filled with a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition is allowed to enter an apparatus C having a cylindrical member A. While the skin tube is traveling inside the cylindrical member, it is cut in the longer direction to form a skin tape H. The skin tape H is separated from the pressure sensitive adhesive composition so as to leave some adhesive composition on the skin tape. The separated pressure-sensitive adhesive composition I is discharged out of the apparatus through an exit. The skin tape separated from the pressure-sensitive adhesive and having a layer of the pressure-sensitive adhesive remaining unseparated is rolled up.

    Abstract: The method used to polymerize a microsuspension enables continuous production of particular homopolymerizates and copolymerizates from at least one polymerizable monomer. The polymerization of the microsuspension, to which addition agents can be added depending on the desired application, is carried out in a tubular reactor at a temperature of at least 0 DEG C C in the presence of a hydrophobic radical polymerization initiator, resulting in particular homopolymerizates and copolymerizates of an average diameter d50 of at least 50 mu m. The polymerizates obtained by this method find applications as addition agents for thermoplastic moulding compounds, as copier toner components, as auxiliary agents for paper and leather, as coating agents for magnetic tapes and foils and as colour and paint components.

    Abstract: Production of aqueous polymer dispersions (I) comprises radical-initiated aqueous emulsion polymerisation of ethylenic monomers to give a dispersion of polymer (A) followed by radical polymerisation of other monomers in one or more subsequent stages (i) in the presence of polymer (A), with the following features: (a) polymer (A) has a Tg of Tg1, (b) the monomers polymerised in stages (i) are such that the isolated statistical (co)polymerisation of these monomers gives a polymer (i) with a Tg which approaches a limiting value of Tgi with increasing molecular weight, (c) for each Tg1 the difference Tgi - Tg1 = at least 10 deg C, (d) the amount of monomers polymerised in polymer (A) is 85-99.9 wt.% of the total amount (TM) polymerised in the entire process, (e) the total amount of monomers polymerised in all stages (i) is 0.1-15 wt.% of TM, (f) in each stage (i), the addition of monomer is carried out so that monomer conversion (polymerisation) (Ui) does not exceed 50 mol% of the amount already in the reactor at any time up to the end of addition, and (g) apart from monomers with two conjugated double bonds, the total amount of monomer used for the production of polymer (A) includes not more than 5 wt.% monomers with more than one unsaturated group. Also claimed are (1) dispersions (I) obtained by this process, (2) polymer powder obtained by spray drying (I), (3) polymers obtained by this process and (4) aqueous dispersions containing such polymers.

    Abstract: In a process for manufacturing adhesive strips a tubular sleeve filled with adhesive is moved under tension through a pipe-shaped apparatus(A) and slit along the length to form a flat strip(H). Most of the adhesive drains from the sleeve, the remainder adheres to the strip(H) which is then wound up. Process equipment comprises the pipe(A) with three or more openings, two slitting knives(F) and a strip wind-up arrangement(D). One opening receives the tubular sleeve, another forms an outlet for excess adhesive and the other incorporates a diverting roll(C).

    Abstract: Production of an aqueous polymer dispersion involves moving the reaction emulsion through an external cycle (9) leading from and returning to a reaction vessel. The cycle (9) has a shearing-deficient pump and a heat exchanger (8) having a laminar flow profile. Production of an aqueous polymer dispersion comprises radically polymerizing compounds (I) having individual solubility in water of at least 0.001 wt.%, and comprising polymer particles containing compounds (II), whose water solubility is less than 0.001 wt.%. An oil-in -water mixture (emulsion I) is produced from a mixture of compound (I) including the compounds (II). An Independent claim is also included for the apparatus used to carry out production process.
