    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject molding material exhibiting a high deformation stability, short combustion time and good stress crack stability, only slightly releasing a frame retardant and useful in the fields of construction automobile industry, etc., by adding the specific flame retardant to a molding material comprising a halogen-free aromatic polycarbonate, a halogen-free rubbery elastic graft polymer, and a thermoplastic aromatic vinyl copolymer. SOLUTION: This fireproof thermoplastic molding material comprises a thermoplastic molding material comprising (A) at least one halogen-free aromatic polycarbonate, (B) at least one halogen-free rubbery elastic graft polymer, and (C) at least one halogen-free thermoplastic aromatic vinyl copolymer, and (D) approximately 0.5-20wt.% of a SO2 group-containing phosphorus compound of the formula [(each R is independently H, an alkyl; (m) is 1-5] as a flame retardant.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a graft copolymer useful as a compatibilizer by reacting a specific polyarylene ether, a thermoplastic polyamide, and a specific copolymer in a specified wt. ratio. SOLUTION: This graft copolymer is obtd. by reacting 5-85wt.% polyarylene ether of which at least 30% of the terminals groups are reactive with functional groups of the below-described copolymer, 5-85wt.% thermoplastic polyamide, and 10-99wt.% copolymer formed from an arom. vinyl compd. (e.g. styrene), a cyclic α, β-unsatd. discarboxylic anhydride (e.g. maleic anhydride), a cyclic α,β-unsatd. dicarboximide (e.g. N-phenylmaleimide), and other copolymerizable monomers, the sum of the reactants being 100wt.%. When this graft copolymer is used as a compatibilizer for a polymer blend based on a polyarylene ether and a polyamide, a molded item excellent in resistance to heat distortion can be obtd.

    Abstract: Thermoplastic molding compositions having good heat resistance, weather resistance and dimension stability are produced from polyesters and polycarbonates and/or styrene copolymers. A thermoplastic molding composition comprises (a) 1-99 wt.% polyester (A); (b) 0-98 wt.% polycarbonate (B); (c) 1-80 wt.% graft copolymer (C) consisting of (1) 1-95 wt.% material (C1) with a glass transition temperature of at least 25 deg C and an average particle size of at least 50 nm consisting of (i) 50-99.99 wt.% vinyl aromatic monomer (C11); (ii) 0-49.99 wt.% monomer (C12); (iii) 0.1-25 wt.% crosslinker (C13) selected from 0.1-100 wt.% dihydrocyclopentadienylacrylate and 0-99.99 wt.% of a further crosslinker with two or more functional groups; and (iv) 0-25 wt.% crosslinker (C14) with two or more functional groups; (2) 4.9-98.9 wt.% material (C2) having a glass transition temperature of at least 0 deg C consisting of (I) 50-100 wt.% alkylacrylate (C21); (II) 0-50 wt.% monomer (C22); and (III) 0-20 crosslinker (C13); and (3) 0.1-90 wt.% further grafting component (C3); (d) 0-80 wt.% styrene copolymer (D); (e) 0-30 wt.% rubber (E); (f) 0-60 wt.% fibrous or particulate filler (F); and (g) 0-20 wt.% further additives.

    Abstract: Polymer blends are claimed, contg. (A) 55-99 wt.% of a copolyarylene-ether-sulphone matrix comprising (a1) 91-97 mole% units of formula (I) and (a2) 3-9 mole% units of formula (II); (B) 1-45 wt.% of a disperse phase consisting of copolyarylene-ether-sulphone contg. (b1) 91-97 mole% units (II) and (b2) 3-9 mole% units (I), (C) 0-40 wt.% impact-modifying rubber, (D) 0-60 wt.% fibrous and/or particulate fillers and (E) 0-40 wt.% processing aids and/or additives. Also claimed is (1) a process for the prodn. of these blends by mixing the components in the melt, and (2) fibres, films, coatings and moulded prods. contg. these blends, esp. cooking utensils. Pref. blend contains 60-95 wt.% (A), 5-40 wt.% (B), 0-40 wt.% (C), 0-60 wt.% (D) and 0-40 wt.% (E), or 55-98 wt.% (A), 1-44 wt.% (B), 1-20 wt.% (C) and 0-40 wt.% (E).
