Abstract: Polymer blends are claimed, contg. (A) 55-99 wt.% of a copolyarylene-ether-sulphone matrix comprising (a1) 91-97 mole% units of formula (I) and (a2) 3-9 mole% units of formula (II); (B) 1-45 wt.% of a disperse phase consisting of copolyarylene-ether-sulphone contg. (b1) 91-97 mole% units (II) and (b2) 3-9 mole% units (I), (C) 0-40 wt.% impact-modifying rubber, (D) 0-60 wt.% fibrous and/or particulate fillers and (E) 0-40 wt.% processing aids and/or additives. Also claimed is (1) a process for the prodn. of these blends by mixing the components in the melt, and (2) fibres, films, coatings and moulded prods. contg. these blends, esp. cooking utensils. Pref. blend contains 60-95 wt.% (A), 5-40 wt.% (B), 0-40 wt.% (C), 0-60 wt.% (D) and 0-40 wt.% (E), or 55-98 wt.% (A), 1-44 wt.% (B), 1-20 wt.% (C) and 0-40 wt.% (E).

Abstract: Moulding materials (M) comprise (I) 30-100 wt.% of a mixt. of (A) at least 99.98 wt.% polyarylene ether sulphone formed from (A1) 0-100 mol.% units of formula (IA1) and/or (A2) 0-100 mol.% units of formula (IA2), and (B) up to 0.02 wt.% one or more aliphatic solvents; (II) 0-70 wt.% fibrous and/or particulate fillers; (III) 0-20 wt.% other additives and/or processing aids resulting from a base catalysed polycondensation reaction of the corresp. aromatic hydroxy- and halogen-substd. monomers in the presence of (B) followed by sepn. of (B), whereby the polycondensate ppts. by evapn., and/or extn., until the desired content of (B), prior to the first melting step is obtd. USE/ADVANTAGE - (M) are useful for the prodn. of moulded articles, sheets and fibres particularly for so-called visible components, e.g., equipment housings or wall coverings in vehicles or for household articles such as food packaging, electrical or electronic equipment or for medical use. The powder contains as an essential component at least one polymer (B) which differs from (A) and is selected from the group containing polyphenylene ethers, polyarylene ether sulphones, polyarylene ether ketones or polyimides.

Abstract: The use of polyarylene-ether-sulphones and polyarylene-ether-ketones or mixts. thereof (I) for encapsulating electrical and electronic components is claimed. (I) are polyarylene-ether-sulphones with repeating units of formula -(Phe-CMe2-Phe-O-Phe-SO2-Phe-O)- (IIA) and/or -(Phe-SO2-Phe-O)- (IIB) (with Phe = 1,4-phenylene). ADVANTAGE - (I) are processed more easily and cheaply than thermosetting resins and ceramics, more suitable than PET and PBT for encapsulating components which are exposed to high thermal loads, and cheaper and more universally applicable than LC polymers. (I) are esp. suitable for prodn. of printed circuits by the SMD technique.
