Abstract: A flexible electrical assembly is presented. The assembly includes a TAB device (3), mounted on one side of a flexible circuit board (8). An array of printed electrical connections extend on either side of the circuit board (8) for connecting terminals (2) of the device to terminals of other devices mounted on the circuit board. An individual heatsink (9) is mounted by leaves (1) to that side of the flexible circuit board (8) remote from the device. The device (3) itself is rigidly enclosed between the heatsink (9) and a protective cover (7). The protective cover (7) has receptacles (12) cooperative with the leaves (1) for attaching the cover (7) to that side of the flexible circuit board (8) adjacent to the device (3).

Abstract: An electro-optic display cell has an arrangement of display electrodes in contact with a liquid within a sealed enclosure. The enclosure comprises an impervious transparent cover and a rigid structural wall member. A seal between the cover and wall member and an elastomeric plug extending between the exterior and interior complete the enclosure. The cell is filled by injecting the liquid into the presealed enclosure by perforating the plug with hollow needles also employed to remove entrapped gas. Upon withdrawal of the needles the perforations collapse to self-seal the enclosure but for added integrity the plug is also mechanically clamped. Conveniently, the seal and plug can be formed as an integral elastomeric moulding around a frame member forming the side wall of the enclosure and the frame member clamped between the cover and a separate base.

Abstract: An electronic circuit package comprises a carrier (11), a microchip (12), which has bond pads (13) and is attached to the carrier, and a flexible circuit comprising a first flexible circuit element cable (15) attached to the region of the carrier adjacent the microchip and a second flexible circuit element cable (17) attached to and stepped back from the first cable. Each element includes an electrically conductive circuit pattern defined thereon with selected ones of the microchip bond pads (13) being electrically connected by wirebonds (16) to a circuit pattern on the first element of the flexible circuit and further selected ones of the bond pads being electrically connected by wirebonds to the circuit pattern of the second element.
