Abstract: The present invention relates to improvements in the frame area of the liquid display panel of a liquid crystal display device, and provides a liquid crystal display device which is enhanced in its blocking ability and the ability of the blocking area to prevent electrostatic failure. A blocking layer 12 is formed in a frame area 1 on TFT array substrate 3. The edge portions of the blocking layer 12 have overlapping areas 14 overlapping the edge portions of each of data lines 10, which are metal layers, with a predetermined overlapping margin d as viewed from a direction perpendicular to the surface of the TFT array substrate 3. An insulation layer 16 is formed on the blocking layer 12 and the TFT array substrate 3. On the insulation layer 16 a semiconductor layer 18 is formed. A plurality of data lines 10 are then disposed on the semiconductor layer 18. The blocking structure thus formed improves the quality of the image display area since it reduces the quantity of light being transmitted from the frame area. Further, the transistor structure formed by the various gate lines, data lines, and blocking lines contributes to the prevention of electrostatic failure.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display comprises a first set of the column conductors (D1 to Dm-1) and a second set of the column conductors (D2 to Dm-2). The first set of column conductors (D1 to Dm-1) are interposed between the second set of column conductors (D2 to Dm-2). The display further includes a plurality of thin film transistors (4) arranged in a matrix of rows and columns. Each transistor has a gate electrode connected to a row conductor, and a conduction channel connected at one end to a column conductor and at the other end to a pixel electrode (5). In any one column of transistors (4), alternate transistors (4a,4b) have their conduction channels connected to different ones of the sets of column conductors.

Abstract: An active matrix type liquid crystal display device with a short-circuiting wire for mutually short-circuiting address wires and data wires through the medium of resistors made of a thin-film transistor is formed along the periphery of a display region on an insulating substrate. The short-circuiting wire is electrically connected inside a region in which the resistors made of a thin-film transistor are formed. In one embodiment, the transistors are surrounded by a portion of the shod circuiting wire. In another embodiment, they are partially surrounded by the wire with a gate electrode which is not protruding out. In another embodiment they are formed with two source and drain regions, one which has a lower breakdown voltage than the other.

Abstract: In an inertial latch for preventing an actuator arm, which is a component of a disk apparatus, from flying out from an unloading position because of an external shock, the actuator arm cannot be prevented from flying out from the unloading position because of repulsion produced when the actuator arm crashes against a stopper, by operation other than an external shock. A latch, for engaging with a point end portion of an actuator arm to prevent the actuator arm from flying out, is provided with a sensing protrusion 16e. When the actuator arm crashes against an outer C/S, this shock causes the latch to rotate and engage with the actuator arm, whereby the actuator arm is prevented from flying out.

Abstract: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY Without the need of a data signal of high frequency such as a horizontal scanning frequency, the polarity of data signal applied to one pixel can be inverted to the polarity of data signal applied to pixels horizontally and vertically adjacent to the one pixel so that a flicker cannot be recognized by an observer. A first data signal is applied to every other column conductor of a plurality of column conductors and a second data signal is applied to remaining column conductors. The polarity of the first data signal is inverted to that of the second data signal. In one mode of the invention, the pixels in the same row are connected to the same row, and the pixels in one column are alternately connected to one column conductor to which the first data signal is applied and to the other column conductor to which the second data signal is applied. The pixels in a column adjacent to the above one column are alternately connected to the above one and the other column conductors with one pixel being shifted in the column direction with respect to the pixels in the above one column. In another mode of the invention, the pixels in each row are alternately connected to adjacent two row conductors, and the pixels in each column are alternately connected to one column conductor to which the first data signal is applied and to the other column conductor to which the second data signal is applied. In both modes, the frequency of the first and second data signals can be made a flame frequency. If the number of row conductors are 550, the frequency of data signal is 550 times smaller than prior art.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ramp structure of a data storage device with which manufacture is facilitated and position shift in a load/unload ramp because of thermal expansion is made to be fewer as a whole. SOLUTION: The ramp structure has a first rigid supporting structure 52, a second rigid supporting structure 76 separated from the first rigid supporting structure, a bridge part 78 connecting the first rigid supporting structure with the second rigid supporting structure and a ramp unit 50 attached to the first rigid supporting structure. The rigid supporting structure has coefficient of thermal expansion that is selected so that space between a ramp and a disk is constant during change of temperature. The ramp unit 50 having accurate and stable seize can be formed by subjecting parts of the first rigid supporting structure 52 and the second rigid supporting structure sleeve 76 to insert molding by being inserted in a metallic mold for injection molding.
