Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal cell with a narrow frame and high quality by sealing sealing material in adjacent to pixel area with regulating slippage of a coating position of sealing material sealing two substrates and with suppressing edge waviness of sealed sealing material. SOLUTION: A sealing position regulating pattern 100 and a sealing waviness regulating pattern 90 are formed in a periphery of at least one substrate of two substrates 50, 60 constituting a liquid crystal cell. As positioning accuracy of a coated sealing material 120 is improved and waviness in an edge of the sealed sealing material enable to make reduce or lose by these pattern, a space between the pixel area and the coated sealing material is possible to be minimized. And as enabling to bring a pixel area 70 as near as possible to surroundings of the liquid crystal cell, a liquid crystal sell dealing with a narrow frame without thickness irregularity enable to be provided.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system which applies a voltage to a liquid crystal layer to have short-time transition to bend orientation for a liquid crystal display device which uses the liquid crystal layer with the bend orientation. SOLUTION: While the potential difference VG-VS between a gate electrode and a signal electrode is held above 10V, a potential difference of >=10V is applied continuously or intermittently between the signal electrode and a counter electrode. When the voltage is applied intermittently, an ON time for which the potential difference is applied between the signal electrode and counter electrode is preferably longer than a time wherein part of the liquid crystal layer substantially begins to change into spray orientation as a 2nd stage and an OFF time for which the potential difference is not applied between the signal electrode and counter electrode is desirably longer than a time needed for a return of the liquid crystal area of the spray orientation as the 2nd stage to the state before the potential is applied.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit having a high front luminance, which can suppress the occurrence of luminance irregularities. SOLUTION: The backlight unit has a light guide plate 20 and a reflection sheet 206 on the rear face of the light guide plate. The rear face of the light guide plate has a plurality of recessed patterns, which reflect and transmit light. The reflection sheet is a silver reflection sheet and plural posts as spacers are formed on the reflection sheet. Even when the reflection sheet is depressed, the spacers maintain a certain clearance between the rear face of the light guide plate and the reflection sheet. By maintaining the clearance, the occurrence of luminance irregularities on the surface of the backlight unit can be suppressed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for coating a corner area of a substrate with a sealant so that a liquid crystal cell can have a wide display area. SOLUTION: A projected part 100 is provided in the area of a side of one surface of a 1st substrate 20 and given a step so that the top surface of the corner area is lower. Using dispenser, the side area and corner area is coated with a sealant 30 along the circumference of the 1st substrate 20. When a 2nd substrate is put on the 1st substrate 20, the applied seal material 30 collapses, but the spread of the inside edge 36 of the sealant becomes smaller in the corner area of the liquid crystal cell because the step exists. This method prevents the sealant 30 from spreading inward in the corner area and the sealant can be formed while being controlled into a frame shape closely to the display area 13, so a wider display area than before can be realized.

Abstract: A method for applying the sealing material onto the corner regions of the substrate to realize the liquid crystal cell with large display region. A protrude region 100 is formed on each of the side regions adjacent to a display region of a first substrate 20. A difference of level is formed at each boundary of the side region and the corner region on one surface of the first substrate 20 for providing the corner region with a height which is lower than a height of the side region. A sealing material 30 is applied on the side regions and the corner regions on the one surface of the first substrate 20 by a tool for dispensing the sealing material 30. When a second substrate 10 is positioned on the applied sealing material 30 on one surface of the first substrate 20, a distance between the first substrate 20 and the second substrate 10 is decreased and the sealing material 30 applied on the first substrate 20 is collapsed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of alignment between sheet materials , a method of alignment, a substrate assembling method, and an aligning apparatus, which a re capable of easily and surely performing highly accurate alignment and suppressing a reduction in material yield. After alignment performed based on a band-like light as a reference, alignment is performed based on a joint of a condenser lens portion of a lenticular lens as a reference. More specifically, the deviation of a liquid crystal display cell in a rotational direction is corrected by using a light emitted from a light source and condensed to be band-like at the lenticular lens as a reference. Subsequently, by changing a depth of focus of a microscope, measurement is performed for positions of a black matrix of the liquid crystal display cell and the joint of the condenser lens porti on of the lenticular lens. Then, based on the result of the measurement, horizontal alignment is performed between the liquid crystal display cell and the lenticular lens.
