Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the transmission of information bit stream in a communications system having a base station and a remote station.SOLUTION: First and second transmission signals are formed in which each transmission signal has bits selected from the information bit stream when the transmission power of the received information bit stream is above a predetermined threshold. Each of the first and second transmission signals is transmitted to the remote station by way of a respective one of the first and second transmission links. The first and second transmission links can be formed between the remote station and a single base station or between the remote station and two separate base stations.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To puncture symbols in a communication system. SOLUTION: S symbols are received for a frame having a capacity of N symbols, with S being greater than N. P symbols need to be punctured so that remaining symbols fit into the frame. The number of puncture distances, D1 through DN, are computed based on S and P. A particular number of symbol punctures is determined for each computed puncture distance. P1 through PN symbol punctures are then performed at the distances of D1 through DN, respectively. For a more even distribution of the symbol punctures, each of the distances D1 through DN can be selected to be greater than or equal to a minimum puncture distance Dmin defined as Dmin=[S/P], where []denotes a floor operator. Abstract:
Techniques for transmitting voice/data and packet data services such that packet data transmissions have less impact on voice/data transmissions. In one aspect, voice/data and packet data can be multiplexed within a transmission interval such that the available resources are efficiently utilized. In another aspect, the amount of variation in the total tansmit power from a base station is controlled to reduce degradation to transmissions from this and other base stations. In a specific method for concurrently transmitting a number of types of data, a first data type (e.g., voice, overhead, and some data) and a second data type are respectively processed in accordance with first and second signal processing schemes to generate first and second payloads, respectively. First and second partitions are then defined in a transmission interval.; The first and second payloads are time multiplexed into the first and second partitions, respectively, and the multiplexed payloads are transmitted.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting information units over a plurality of constant bit rate communication channel. The techniques include encoding the information units, thereby creating a plurality of data packets. The encoding is constrained such that the data packet sizes match physical layer packet sizes of the communication channel. The information units may include a variable bit rate data stream, multimedia data, video data, and audio data. The communication channels include CMDA channels, WCDMA, GSM channels, GPRS channels, and EDGE channels.
Abstract:
A method for wireless communications where a control packet is not transmitted for all transmissions of a new data packet. A control packet is only sent with a retransmission of a data packet where the previously transmitted data packet is not completely received. The control packet contains information related to a previously transmitted data packet. The previously transmitted data packet and the retransmission data packet are derived from common data. The common data is derived based on the information related to the previously transmitted data packet, wherein the previously transmitted data packet and the retransmission data packet are associated with a series of data packets.
Abstract:
An apparatus operative to transmit packet data via at least one of a first set of channels in a wireless communications system, the system supporting packet data transmissions and low delay data transmissions over a plurality of transmission channels. The apparatus comprising means for transmitting packet data via a set of packet data channels; means for transmitting control information associated with the packet data via a signalling channel, wherein the signalling channel is separate from the set of packet data channels, and wherein the control information identifies a target recipient of associated packet data; means for receiving data requests from a plurality of mobile units; means for determining a transmission schedule according to the data requests; means for assigning a priority level to each of the plurality of mobile units; and means for determining a traffic schedule among the plurality of mobile units based on the assigned priority level.
Abstract:
Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to communications. The systems and techniques involve transmitting a signal over a plurality of time periods, receiving a plurality of parameters each relating to the signal transmission during a different one of the time periods, filtering a first one of the parameters to generate a first filtered parameter, filtering a second one of the parameters as a function of the first filtered parameter to generate a second filtered parameter, and adjusting the signal as a function of the second filtered parameter.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for providing link quality feedback to a transmitter (32,34). In one embodiment, a periodic link quality message is transmitted on a gated channel, while continuous differential indicators are transmitted. Between quality messages, the differential indicators track the quality of the link. In one embodiment, a remote station includes a differential analyzer (212) to determine the change in successive channel quality measurements. The quality metric and the differential indicator are used for providing power control commands and rate control commands to teh base station. The quality metric and the differential indicator are transmitted at two different frequencies.
