Abstract: Un proceso para preparar anhídrido de ácido ftálico mediante oxidación en fase gaseosa de xileno, naftaleno o mezclas de los mismos en un reactor de haz de tubos, termostatizado mediante un agente de transferencia de calor por sobre tres o más catalizadores anulares soportados en lechos fijos, ubicados en capas, donde el proceso se lleva a cabo de tal modo que la temperatura máxima en la segunda capa de catalizador en la dirección de flujo es de 10 hasta 40ºC más baja que la temperatura máxima en la primera capa de catalizador, la temperatura máxima en la tercera capa desde la entrada de gas es desde 30 hasta 100ºC más baja que en la primera zona de catalizador y la temperatura máxima en la primera zona de catalizador es menor que 470ºC.

Abstract: A catalyst for gas-phase oxidations which comprises an inert support and a catalytically active composition comprising transition metal oxides applied thereto, or a precatalyst, is described. The (pre)catalyst is obtained by treating the inert support with an aqueous suspension or solution of the transition metal oxides or their precursor compounds, where the suspension contains a binder dispersion and the binder is a copolymer of an alpha-olefin and a vinyl-C 2 -C 4 -carboxylate whose vinyl C 2 -C 4 -carboxylate content is at least 62 mol %.

Abstract: A process is described for producing a catalyst for gas-phase oxidations, in which a suspension of TiO2 and V2O5 particles is applied to a fluidized inert support, wherein at least 90% by volume of the V2O5 particles have a diameter of 20 mum or less and at least 95% by volume of the V2O5 particles have a diameter of 30 mum or less. The defined particle size distribution of the V2O5 allows a high coating efficiency.

A process for the production of methacrolein from isobutane comprises: (A) partial, selective, heterogeneously catalyzed dehydrogenation of isobutane in the gas phase in a reaction zone (A) to form a mixture of isobutene and unreacted isobutane; (B) transport of the gas mixture to a reaction zone (B) followed by a selective heterogeneously catalyzed partial oxidation with molecular oxygen in the gas phase to form a methacrolein containing product mixture; (C) the methacrolein in the product mixture from (B) is either used for the production of methacrylic acid or other purpose and the non-reacted isobutane is either recycled to reaction zone (A) or used for another purpose and is characterized in that the molar ratio of molecular oxygen to molecular nitrogen is 1:1-1:10.
