Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyarylene sulphides by reacting dihaloaromatic compounds with alkali metal sulphides in N-cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone as solvent, in which the reaction mixture obtained is diluted with water and cooled, the polyarylene sulphides are removed and further diluted with water until an N-cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone content of from 10 to 95% by weight has been reached, and the N-cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone phase is subsequently separated off at a temperature of >/= 50 DEG C.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyaryl sulphides having low fusion. To this end, a dihaloaromatic is reacted with an alkali metal sulphide in an amide or lactam as the solvent at temperatures between 190 and 300 DEG C in the presence of 0.03 to 1.5 mol of an alkali metal silicate per mol of alkali metal sulphide. Preferred alkali metal silicates are sodium metasilicate and potassium metasilicate in the form of their hydrates.

A+B, of poly-epsilon-caprolactone with Mw 400-100,000 and/or a polymer of structure (I), where the value of (r) is such that molec. wt. is 400-100,000.

A, of (a21) a monomer with a polymerisable double bond, contg. amide gps., (a22) a monomer with a polymerisable double bond, contg. lactam gps., and/or (a23) an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarbonyl cpd. and (a3) 0-20%, w.r.t. A, of another comonomer, which can react with al under the reaction conditions, (B) 3-87%, w.r.t. A + B + C, of a thermoplastic copolymer, produced in the melt from (b1) 80-99.95%, w.r.t. B, of a basic polymer contg. acrylic and phenyl gps. and (b2) 0.05-20%, w.r.t. B, of an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarbonyl cpd.; and (C) 0.01-10%, w.r.t. A + B + C, of a cpd. with at least 2 OH, SH, epoxy and/or amino substits.
