Abstract: Use of water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer by polymerization of a mixture, comprising at least one alpha ,beta - ethylenic unsaturated compound, at least one of different monoethylenic unsaturated amide group containing compound, a crosslinker, at least one monoethylenic unsaturated compound containing at least one group of alkyl substituted group, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aryl alkyl and hetaryl and/or reactive precursor, further different monoethylenic unsaturated compound and a polyether containing compound, for modification of the rheologic aqueous and/or alcoholic compositions. Use of water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer by polymerization of a mixture, comprising 99.99-10 wt.% of at least one alpha ,beta - ethylenic unsaturated compound with at least one cationogenic and/or cationic group per molecule, 0-90 wt.% of at least one of different monoethylenic unsaturated amide group containing compound, 0.01-5 wt.% of cross linker, 0-15 wt.% of at least one monoethylenic unsaturated compound containing at least one group of 5-30C alkyl substituted group, 5-30C alkenyl, 5-8C cycloalkyl, aryl, aryl alkyl and hetaryl, and/or a reactive precursor, 0-30 wt.% of further different monoethylenic unsaturated compound and 0-70 wt.% of a polyether containing compound, where the polymerization is carried out in the presence of less than 69 wt.% of cyclohexane and less than 12 wt.% of water, and the absence of carbon dioxide, for modification of the rheologic aqueous and/or alcoholic compositions. Independent claims are included for: (1) a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer; and (2) a cosmetic or pharmaceutical agent comprising the water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer.

Abstract: Procedimiento para la producción de polímeros catiónicos solubles en agua o hinchables en agua mediante (i) copolimerización iniciada por radicales libres de mezclas de monómeros en agua que comprenden (a) desde el 1 hasta el 99% en peso de un monómero catiónico o monómero cuaternizable, (b) desde el 1 hasta el 99% en peso de un monómero soluble en agua, (c) desde el 0 hasta el 10% en peso de un monómero copolimerizable por radicales libres, bi o polifuncional, ajustando las cantidades de (a) a (c) de tal manera que el polímero resultante tiene una carga global positiva, en presencia del 1 al 100% de la cantidad de una sal que es necesaria para saturar el medio de reacción con dicha sal y en presencia del 0, 1 al 20% en peso con respecto al peso de la dispersión, de un dispersante anfótero que tiene una carga global negativa, y (ii) cuaternización posterior del polímero si el monómero (a) empleado es un monómero no cuaternizado.

Abstract: A process for the production of water-soluble or water-swellable cationic polymers by (i) free-radically initiated copolymerization of monomer mixtures in water comprising (a) from 1 to 99% by weight of a cationic monomer or quaternizable monomer, (b) from 1 to 99% by weight of a water-soluble monomer, (c) from 0 to 10% by weight of a bi- or polyfunctional, free-radically copolymerizable monomer, adjusting the amounts (a) to (c) in such a way that the resulting polymer has an overall positive charge, in the presence of 1 to 100% of the amount of a salt which is necessary to saturate the reaction medium with said salt and in the presence of 0,1 to 20 % by weight referred to the weight of the dispersion, of an amphoteric dispersant having an overall negative charge, and (ii) subsequent quaternization of the polymer if the monomer (a) employed is a non-quaternized monomer is disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 14 to C 22. The invention also relates to acrylate polymers comprising a K-value ranging from 10 to 60, which can be obtained by the radical polymerization of: 30 to 99 wt. % of tert-butyl acrylate and/or tert-butyl methacrylate designated as monomer A; 1 to 28 wt. % of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid designated as monomer B, and; 0 to 60 wt. % of a radically copolymerizable monomer or of a radically copolymerizable monomer mixture designated as monomer C, whereby at least one of monomers C yields a homopolymer with a glass-transition temperature lower than 30° C., with the provision that the wt. %'s total 100. The radical polymerization is carried out in the presence of alkane thiols with a C chain length of C 10 to C 22 followed by a hydrogen peroxide treatment. The invention also relates to the use of these acrylate polymers as film formers as well as to their use in cosmetic preparations.
