Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect even a discharge failure at a part of a nozzle array of a recording head in a detection operation for a quantity of ink remaining. SOLUTION: In the facsimile apparatus having a recording part which records by discharging ink to a recording medium from a recording head 5 equipped with a nozzle array 5c of a plurality of ink discharge nozzles, a photosensor is set with a lightemitting element 81 and a light-detecting element 82 disposed so that an optical axis is a predetermined angle to the nozzle array of the recording head 5. An ink discharge detection signal is generated at a change of an output of the photosensor when the discharged ink from the recording head traverses the optical axis. The presence/absence of an ink discharge, that is, whether the ink is discharged is inspected accordingly. The ink is discharged at a time point when the recording head 5 is located at each of discharge positions (1)-(n), and the ink discharge is detected by the photosensor. The ink discharge at each part of the nozzle array is inspected in this manner.

Furthermore, the conservation of the irrage data even after its recording can be selected in response to the controlling information sent from the external devices.
