    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film for heat sensitive porous plate printing base paper having excellent processability and curling property after the process. SOLUTION: A biaxial oriented polyester film with a 0.4 to 8 μm thickness, has a 0% to 1% thermal contraction ratio in the longitudinal direction at 65 deg.C, for 60 minutes, and a 49 MPa to 78 MPa Young's modulus ETD in the width direction, with the ratio ETD/EMD of the Young's modulus EMD in the longitudinal direction and ETD of 1 to 2. In order to apply a slipperiness to this film, 0.001 to 2 parts by weight, preferably 0.002 to 1 part by weight of inert particles can be added to 100 parts by weight of the polyester. Examples of the inert particles include calcium carbonate, silicon dioxide, kaolinite, barium sulfate, calcium phosphate, tarc, titanium dioxide, aluminum oxide, and calcium silicate, obtained synthetically or naturally. The average particle size of the inert particles is 0.1 to 3 μm, preferably 0.3 to 2 μm.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve processability and handleability by specifying wet expansion coefficient, whiteness, surface roughness and specific gravity of a biaxially oriented polyester film, thereby sufficiently setting printing density, eliminating curl, and performing excellent printing properties. SOLUTION: A biaxially oriented polyester film has its wet expansion coefficient of 18×10 cm/cm/%R.H. Thus, its curl is eliminated. And, whiteness of the film is necessary in range of 60 to 130% in printing quality. Surface roughness of the film is in a range of 0.001 to 0.25μm in printing quality and processability or particularly preferable roughness is in a range of 0.01 to 0.08μm. Specific gravity of the film is necessary in a range of 1.35 to 0.6 in printing density and mechanical strength, and lowered as compared with that of normal polyester film. At least one surface of the film is coated with aqueous paint as the film for the image receiving base material.

SOLUTION: In a thermal transfer ribbon, the base material layer of which is made of biaxially oriented polyester film and, on one side of the base material layer of which a thermal transfer ink layer is provided, the gradient of the temperature-dimensional change curve in the widthwise direction of the biaxially oriented polyester film changes from positive to negative at the point A, which lines within the range of 160-200 deg.C and the rate of dimensional change to the original length of the film at which lies within the range of 0.5-2.5% and further changes from negative to positive at the point B, which lies within the range of 200-230 deg.C and the rate of dimensional change to the original length of the film at which lines within the range of -0.5--2%.
