    Abstract: An apparatus for performing LRU techniques for a 4 way set associative cache system. A RAM stores the ways representing the least recently used (LRU), most recently used (MRU) and LRU+1. The MRU-1 is developed by XORing the other three LRU way information values. Processor or snoop operation is determined and the way use aging information valued is based on snooping or processor operations. For processor operations the accessed or to be accessed way is set as the MRU, while in snoop operations, the way being accessed is set as the LRU. The aging of the remaining ways is shuffled accordingly. This shuffling occurs each cycle but is only stored on processor cache hit, processor read cache miss and snoop hit operations.

    Abstract: A page wide ink jet printhead body (12) is formed using first and second series of identically configured rectangular piezoceramic blocks (18-24) having widths not greater than about one inch. The individual blocks are poled in widthwise directions and secured to one another and to an upper side surface of a non-poled piezoceramic lower body section in an orientation in which a first series of the blocks extend along the body section surface in a side-by-side orientation, a second series of the blocks extends along the upper side surface of the first block series, and the spaced side junctures of the first block series are aligned with the spaced side junctures of the second block series. Horizontally equally spaced saw cuts are then made downwardly through the first and second block series, with the block width being an even multiple of the horizontal saw cut pitch, and saw cuts extending vertically through the aligned side junctures of each block series. A top, non-poled piezoceramic body section is then secured to the top side of the second block series, the saw cuts forming within the resulting printhead body (12) a spaced series of parallel ink receiving channels interdigitated with a spaced series of piezoelectrically deflectable sidewall actuator sections. A suitable discharge orifice plate (14) is then secured to the body, over the front ends of the channels, and the rear ends of the channels are appropriately sealed off.

    Abstract: An "extra-folded" projection display system includes a selectively reflective material (e.g., a linear reflecting polarizer) placed immediately behind the system's imaging screen. The display system includes an image projector that projects an image beam containing light of a predetermined linear polarization toward the imaging screen. The linear reflecting polarizer reflects the light in the image beam away from the screen. The reflected image beam then encounters a 1/4-wavelength achromatic retarder which converts the linear polarization to circular polarization. The image beam next hits a mirror that reflects the light back through the 1/4-wavelength achromatic retarder, which converts the circular polarization back to linear polarization, with the polarization director rotated 90 DEG from the original polarization director. The linear reflecting polarizer then allows the light to pass through to the image screen.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving disk performance during partial stripe write operations in a computer system having a disk array subsystem utilizing parity fault tolerance technique. When a partial stripe write generation is begun, the method determines if the area or stripe where the write is to occur is unused space in the file system. If not, the partial stripe write operation is performed using a preceding read operation to read the current data and parity information from the disk as would normally be done. However, if the write area is unused space in the file system, then the contents of the data stripe do not need to be preserved. In this instance, the partial stripe write operation can be performed without any preceding read operations. By obviating the necessity of a preceding read operation, much of the performance penalty of doing a partial stripe write in the case where the rest of the data stripe does not need to be preserved is removed.

    Abstract: A current limiter (72) placed in the charge path of a battery (28) limits the charge rate that a battery charger can provide to the battery. The battery temperature, voltage, and current are monitored (82,54,76) to determine whether the battery can handle a faster rate of charge than the current limiter allows. If the battery can handle a higher rate of charge, a transistor (78,80) configured in parallel with the current limiter (72) is enabled which by-passes the current limiter and allows the battery charger to charge the battery at a higher rate.
