    Abstract: An aqueous, pigmented coating material contains (i) a film-forming polymer dispersion based on 80-99.95 wt% 2-20C alkyl or 5 cycloalkyl (meth)acrylate(s), 0.05-10 wt% unsaturated carboxylic, sulfonic or phosphonic acid and optionally other monomers, (ii inorganic pigment and optional fillers and (iii) 0.05-0.3 wt% non-polymerizable photoinitiator. An aqueous, pigment-containing coating material with a pigment volume concentration of at least 10 and essentially free fro volatile organic compounds (VOC), containing (i) aqueous polymer dispersion(s) which are film-forming at room temperature, containing polymer(s) (P) derived from (A) 80-99.95 wt% (meth)acrylate esters of 2-20C alkanols or 5-10C cycloalkanols, (B) 0.05 wt% unsaturated carboxylic, sulfonic or phosphonic acid(s) and/or their salts and (C) 0-20 wt% monomers other than (A) and (B), inorganic pigment(s) and optionally inorganic or organic fillers, (iii) non-polymerizable photoinitiator(s) in amounts of betwee 0.05 and less than 0.3 wt% based on (P) and (iv) water and conventional auxiliary substances. An Independent claim is also inclu for a process for coating substrates by applying the above coating material to the substrate.

    Abstract: Surprisingly, use of an aqueous coating composition containing: (i) an aqueous polymer dispersion giving a polymerizate P of sub-zero Tg value, containing an aqueous monoethylene unsaturated monomer A), an ethylenically unsaturated mono-or dicarboxylic acid or their anhydrides as monomer B, and an ethylenically unsaturated polymerized monomer C, (ii) and a water soluble salt or complex salt of a divalent metal gives coatings on metal building parts of very good adhesion. Use of an aqueous composition containing (i) at least one aqueous polymerisation dispersion, of which the polymerizate P has a glass transition temperature below 0 degrees C containing (wt.%): at least one aqueous monoethylene unsaturated monomer A (80-99.5), at least one ethylenically unsaturated mono-or dicarboxylic acid or their anhydrides as monomer B (0.5-10), an ethylenically unsaturated singly polymerised monomer C, different from A and B, where the weight proportions of A, B, and C = 100 wt.%, and (ii) at least one water soluble salt or complex salt of at least one divalent metal. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for coating metal building components by coating with a first coating composition as primer and coating the primer with at least one extra coating composition, where the primer coating is selected from the compositions described above; (2) a metal building component obtainable by the above process.

    Abstract: Method of coating mineral moldings with film-forming aqueous formulations involves applying first coat(s) containing copolymer(s) (P1) as binder and inorganic pigment(s); optionally drying; then applying coat(s) containing copolymer(s) (P2) as binder and optionally inorganic pigment, in which copolymers P1 and P2 consist of (A) vinyl-aromatic(s) (A1) and/or 1-4 C alkyl methacrylate(s) (A2), (B) 1-12 C alkyl ester(s) (B1) of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, other than (A2), and/or vinyl esters (B2) of aliphatic carboxylic acids and optionally (C) other alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s). The novelty is that P1 and P2 consist of the same monomers A and B and the pigment volume concentration (PVC) of the first formulation is at least 10 times higher than that of the second. Independent claims are also included for (a) the coating formulation system; and (b) mineral moldings coated in this way.
