Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding materials contain: (A) polyarylene ether(s); (B) possibly filler(s) or reinforcing material(s), and (C) modified, carboxyl group-containing polyarylene ether(s) with units of formula (I) and (II) in a mol ratio of (I):(II) of (0.05:99.95)-(99.95:0.05). x = 0.5 or 1; t, q = 0, 1, 2 or 3; n = 0-6; Q, T, Y, Z = single bond, O, S, SO2, SO, CO, N=N, RaC=CRb or CRcRd; Ra, Rb = H or 1-12C alkyl; Rc, Rd = H, 1-12C alkyl or alkoxy, or 6-18C aryl, optionally substituted with F and/or Cl or optionally combined together with the linking C atom to form a 3-12C cycloalkyl group which may be substituted with 1-6C alkyl group(s); T, Q and/or Z is SO2 or CO, and Z = SO2 or CO if t and q are 0; Ar - Ar = 6-18C arylene, optionally substituted with 1-12C alkyl or alkoxy, 6-18C aryl, or halogen; R = H, 1-6C alkyl or -(CH2)nCOOH. Also claimed are: (i) reinforced moulding materials containing 1-98 wt% (A), 1-50 wt% fibrous or particulate filler or reinforcing agent (B), 1-98 wt% (C) and 0-30 wt% other additive(s) (D), (ii) moulding materials with improved wettability containing 1-99 wt% (A), 1-99 wt% (C) and 0-50 wt% (D), (iii) solutions of moulding materials containing 1-80 wt% components (A), (C) and optionally (D) in an organic solvent, and (iv) fibres, film and mouldings made from these materials.

Abstract: A thermoplastic molding composition comprises (a) a polyamide containing an end-group derived from a specified piperidine compound; and (b) a specified copolymer containing a functional group which can react with the end-group in (a). A thermoplastic molding composition comprises (a) a polyamide containing an end-group derived from a piperidine compound of formula (I); and (b) a copolymer which is (i) a rubber-free statistical copolymer containing a styrene, a monomer with a group reacting with the end-group of polyamide (a) and a monomer with no groups reactive with (a); (ii) a 95-99.5/0.5-5 Y/X block copolymer with Y being a mixture of a styrene with an ethylenically unsaturated ester or with a monomer other than maleic anhydride and X being an alternating structure of a styrene and an acid and/or anhydride comonomer; or (iii) a rubber-free statistical copolymer of methyl methacrylate, an acid and/or anhydride comonomer and optionally also a (meth)acrylic ester. Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing polymer mixtures by reacting at least one amino nitrile with water in the presence of thermoplastic polymers and optional additional monomers which form polyamide. The inventive method comprises the following steps: (1) reacting at least one amino nitrile with water at a temperature ranging from 90 to 400 degrees C and under a pressure ranging from 0.1 to 35 x 106 Pa, whereby a reaction is obtained; (2) additional reaction of the reaction mixture ranging from 150 to 400 degrees C and under a pressure which is lower than the pressure in step (1), whereby the temperature and pressure are selected in such a way that a first gas phase and a first liquid or a first solid phase of a mixture comprised of the first solid and first liquid phases are obtained, and the first gas phase is separated off from the first liquid or the first solid phase or from the mixture comprised of the first liquid and the first solid phases; and (3) mixing the firs tliquid or the first solid phase or the mixture comprised of the first liquid and first solid phases with a gaseous or liquid phase which contains water and which can contain thermoplastic polymers and optional additional monomers which form polyamide. Said mixing occurs at a temperature ranging from 150 to 370 degrees C and under a pressure ranging from 0.1 to 30 x 106 Pa, whereby the polymer mixture is obtained and whereby the thermoplastic polymers and optional additional monomers which form polyamide are added in one or more of the steps.

Abstract: The invented process for producing polymer blends by reacting at least one aminonitrile with water in the presence of thermoplastic polymers and optionally further polyamide-forming monomers comprises the following steps: (1) reacting at least one aminonitrile with water at a temperature ranging from 90 to 400 degC, and a pressure in the range of 0.1 to 35x10e6 Pa to obtain a reaction mixture, (2) further reacting the reaction mixture at a temperature from 150 to 400 degC, and a pressure which is lower than the pressure in step 1, whereby the temperature and pressure being selected so as to obtain a first gas phase and a first liquid or a first solid phase or a mixture of first solid and first liquid phase and the first gas phase is separated from the first liquid or the first solid phase or the mixture of first liquid and first solid phase, and (3) admixing the first liquid or the first solid phase or the mixture of first liquid and first solid phase with a gaseous or liquid phase comprising water, which phase may contain thermoplastic polymers and optionally further polyamide-forming monomers, at a temperature ranging from 150 to 370 degC, and a pressure in the range of 0.1 to 30x10e6 Pa to obtain the polymer blend, wherein in one or more of the steps the thermoplastic polymers and optionally further polyamide-forming monomers are added. Claimed is also the use of the above-described polymer mixtures for producing fibers, films or shaped bodies.
