    Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a handoff between radio access networks (RANs) deployed under different radio access technologies (RATs) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is equipped with at least two radio units to support the RATs. Each RAN sends a list of co-located RANs in the coverage area of the RAN to the WTRU. The WTRU stores the list and determines whether handoff criteria is met by one of the co-located RANs. The WTRU then initiates a handoff from a current RAN to a target RAN if the handoff criteria is met by the target RAN. Alternatively, the WTRU may send a measurement report to the current RAN, whereby the current RAN determines whether handoff criteria is met by a selected one of the co-located RANs and initiate a handoff to the selected RAN if the handoff criteria is met.

    Abstract: El presente esta relacionado con un método de activar servicios multiples de soporte en un sistema inalámbrico de comunicacion de evolucion de término largo (LTE) que incluye multiples soportes. Al menos uno de los multiples soportes es activado durante los procedimientos de union inicial que combinan un procedimiento de union con procedimientos de activacion de contexto de protocolo de datos de paquete (PDP) de activar. En una personificacion se implementan procedimientos de union de LTE para la activacion de servicios de multi-soporte que establece una operacion de tunel de protocolo de tunelizacion (GTP) de servicio de radio de paquete general (GPRS) directo de LTE o de dos tuneles de GTP normal. En otra personificacion, los procedimientos de union iniciales son usados para, activar un contexto de PDP de falla a ser seguido por procedimientos de activacion de contexto de PDP modificados para la activacion de servicios de multi-soporte. Estos procedimientos se pueden usar para establecer una operacion de tunel de GTP directo de LTE modificado o de dos tuneles de GTP normal.

    Abstract: A method and system for interworking between cellular networks and wireless local area networks (WLANs) are disclosed. At least one cellular network, at least one WLAN and an IP network are deployed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) first establishes a connection to a WLAN and a tunnel between an access point (AP) and a packet data gateway (PDG) is established. The PDG further establishes a tunnel to an IP network. The WTRU then invokes a service which is delivered through the WLAN. As signal quality from the AP degrades below a predetermined threshold, a handover from the WLAN to the cellular network is performed. A new connection to the cellular network may be established either before or after breaking the current connection to the WLAN or the two connections may be maintained simultaneously.
