    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a melanin inhibitor strongly suppressing enzyme activity related to melanin synthesis, having excellently improving effects on melanization, comprising a benzyl phenyl, ketone derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A melanin inhibitor comprising 0.01-50wt.%, preferably 0.1-20wt.% compound of the formula (R to R are H, OH or lower alkoxy; R is H, OH or cyano) such as 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-p-hydroxybenzyl ketone as an active ingredient. The inhibitor can be prepared into a form such as lotion, milky lotion, pack or gel. The inhibitor is locally applied to an affected part such as stain of skin, freckle, chromatosis after suntan. The amount of the inhibitor used is 1-20mg based on 1cm skin face in the case of cream or ointment and 1-10mg in the case of liquid.
