    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain the subject compound useful e.g. as a component of bathing agent and cosmetic in high yield by treating a 2-alkylbenzoic acid with a microorganism having asymmetric hydroxylation potency and carrying out intramolecular esterification of the resultant product. SOLUTION: A 2-alkylbenzoic acid expressed by the formula I (R is a linear or branched-chain alkyl or alkenyl; R is H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or an aryl) is treated with a microorganism having asymmetric hydroxylation potency such a Pseudomonas putida ATCC12633, Aspergillus niger IFO 4091 or Aspergillus niger IFO 6661 and the resultant product is subjected to intermolecular esterification to easily obtain the objective optically active 3- substituted phthalide expressed by the formula II ((*) shows that the steric configuration of the position is S or R) and useful as a component of a bathing agent or a cosmetic in high yield.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for physiologically active substances such as pheromones. CONSTITUTION:This (S)-2-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-1-nitropropane is expressed by the formula. The compound can be obtained at a low cost on a large scale by reacting (S)-1-nitro-2-propanol with t-butyldimethylsilyl chloride in a solvent such as DMF. Furthermore, this compound can be used as a raw material and subjected to the Michael addition reaction with methyl vinyl ketone in the presence of a base and subsequently the denitration hydrogenating reaction in tributylstannane/azobisisobutyronitrile system to afford optically active 6-(t- butyldimethylsilyloxy)-2-heptanone.

CONSTITUTION:A phenylalaninol derivative or a tyrosinol derivative of formula I (R is H or OH; R and R are H or alkyl; R is H, alkanoyl or benzoyl), e.g. L-tyrosinol is, as an effective component, compounded in an amount of 0.01-50wt.%, preferably 0.1-20wt.%, based on the total composition. The composition is formulated as a cosmetic in a form of lotion, milky lotion, cream, ointment, stick, solution, pack, jell, etc. A compound of formula I is obtained by suspending a phenylalanin derivative or a tyrosin derivative of formula II in alcohol, adding thionyl chloride dropwise under heating and stirring to lead to the ester, adding benzoyl chloride or an alkanoyl chloride dropwise to lead to a compound of formula III and finally subjecting this compound to reduction.

The amount of the compound to be compounded to the total external agent is 0.01-50wt.%, especially 0.1-20wt.%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a melanin inhibitor, containing an aryl sulfide derivative as an active ingredient and excellent in improving effects on pigmentation and blending properties in cosmetic bases. This inhibitor can be prepared as a cosmetic in the form of a lotion, a milky lotion, a cream, an ointment, a stick, a pack, a get, etc. In the case of the cosmetic in the form of the cream or ointment, it is applied in an amount of 1-20mg per cm skin surface. In the case of the cosmetic in the form of the liquid formulation, it is similarly applied in an amount of 1-10mg per cm skin surface.
