Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of latex during a polymn. reaction, to enhance work efficiency and to increase the blackening density of a toner by suspension-polymerizing a monomer dispersed in an aqueous medium contg. a water-soluble mercaptan compound and by adding the resulting polymer particles. CONSTITUTION:This toner contains polymer particles obtd. by polymerizing a 3-25C monomer having a polymerizable unsatd. group in an aqueous medium in the presence of a water-soluble mercaptan compound and a water-soluble high-molecular compound and/or a slightly water-soluble inorg. salt. The water- soluble mercaptan compound is used so as to inhibit emulsion polymn. in the aqueous phase, and the amount of the compound added is 0.001-10wt%, preferably 0.05-5wt% of the amount of water as the dispersion medium. Styrene, a styrene deriv. such as o-methylstyrene, an acrylic acid deriv. such as methyl acrylate, a methacrylic acid deriv. such as ethyl methacrylate or a vinyl ester such as vinyl acetate may be used as the monomer having a polymerizable unsatd. group.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled dispersion stabilizer capable of improving stationary stability and flowability, which comprises as an essential ingredient a polymer obtained by polymerizing an unsaturated carboxylic acid, alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated monomer, etc., using an org. thiol compd. as a chain transfer agent. CONSTITUTION:At least one monomer selected from among an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid (or its derivative) (A) (e.g.: acrylic acid), an alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (B) (or its derivative) (e.g.: maleic acid) and an alpha,beta- ethylenically unsaturated monomer (C) other than the components (A) and (B) (e.g.: vinyl acetate) is provided. At least one monomer is (co)polymerized using an org. thiol compd. (e.g.: n-octyl mercaptan) of the formula R-SH (wherein R is a straight-chain or branched 8-24C alkyl, aryl etc.). The (co)polymer (salt) is incorporated as an essential ingredient to obtain an intended dispersion stabilizer for a coal-water slurry.

Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled dispersing agent, consisting of a polymer containing both oleophilic ethylenically unsaturated monomer units and ethylenically unsaturated monomer units having amphoteric ionic groups are essential constituent components. CONSTITUTION:A dispersion stabilizer consisting of a polymer containing (A) oleophilic ethylenically unsaturated monomer units, e.g. (1-18C alkyl-substituted) styrene units or alkyl (meth)acrylate units, and (B) ethylenically unsaturated monomer units having amphoteric ionic groups, e.g. groups expressed by formula I (R1 and R2 are H or 1-12C alkyl, or R1 and R2 together with N form pyridyl; A is 1-12C alkylene or phenylene; W is COO or SO 3, etc.) or group expressed by formula II, as essential constituent components, and having usually 500-500,000 number-average molecular weight. Preferably, the amounts of the units (A) and (B) are 70-99mol% and 1-30mol% respectively. EFFECT:The agent is capable of preventing water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomers from sticking to polymerizers and useful for obtaining effectively granular polymers.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain hair-treating agent having excellent property to form and keep the style of the hair, by using keratin decomposition derivative and glucoside and/or polyphenol compound as essential components. CONSTITUTION:The objective hair-treating agent contains (A) 0.05-10.0wt% keratin decomposition derivative selected from hydrolyzed keratin, alkali metal salt of the oxidative decomposition product of keratin, and alkali metal salt of a derivative of reduction decomposition product of keratin at the thiol group, or their mixture and (B) 0.001-5.0wt% glucoside and/or a polyphenol compound. The keratin of the component (A) is preferably wool, hair, or feather. The glucoside and the polyphenol compound of the component (B) are preferably saponin and a tannin derivative, respectively. Both components are dissolved in a proper solvent, or converted to an emulsion, gel, etc. to obtain the objective treating agent.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain treated wool having excellent chemical reactivity, free from color and odor, and suitable as an adsorbent for heavy metals, etc., by immersing wool, etc. in an aqueous solution containing oxidizing agent, etc., heating under pressure in a pressure vessel, and discharging into low-pressure atmosphere thereby effecting the expansion of the wool. CONSTITUTION:Wool, etc. are immersed in an aqueous solution containing an oxidizing agent (e.g. performic acid), a reducing agent (e.g. thioglycolic acid), a surface-active agent (e.g. sodium laurylsulfate), an alcohol, an acid or an alkali. The treated wook, etc. are dehydrated, optionally washed with water, and heat-treated under pressure (>=2kg/cm G, pref. 4-6kg/cm G) with saturated steam in a pressure vessel, and discharged rapidly into a low-pressure atmosphere to effect the expansion of the wool, etc.

CONSTITUTION:(A) Preferably 0.01-5wt% derivative at the thiol group of a substance obtained by subjecting a keratin substance to oxidative or reductive decomposition, e.g., a derivative with its thiol group replaced by SCH2COOH, SCH2CH2COOH, SO3H, SSO3H, SCH2CH2SO3H, SCH2CH2SO2CH2COOH or groups shown by the formulas I-V is blended with (B) an alkanolamine or a basic amino acid in an amount to give 0.1-8 equivalent based on COOH or SO3H in the component A, and the blend is dissolved in a polar solvent, e.g., water, ethyl alcohol, etc., to give a hair setting agent composition. The composition may be blended with an arbitrary component to respond the desired purpose within a limit not to obstruct the effects of the composition.
