    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a useless current leaking in a reversed direction or the like and to heighten rectification property, by conducting a predetermined display by means of a potential difference at crossing parts of a plurality of negative electrodes and a plurality of positive electrodes and by forming the negative electrodes of a material mainly composed of aluminum. SOLUTION: An ITO transparent electrode 5 (a positive electrode), a hole transport layer 4, an electron transport layer 2, and an electrode layer 1 (a negative electrode) are laminated in order on a transparent substrate 6 such as glass. In the case that an organic EL element 20 is a simple matrix, one picture element of the element 20 is formed at each of crossing parts of the electrode 5 and the electrode 1 on one and the same substrate 6, which is, as a circuit, made equivalent to a case where one diode is connected to each of these crossing parts. A predetermined display is conducted by means of a potential difference between the two electrodes at each of the crossing parts while the electrode 1 is formed of a material mainly composed of aluminum. Forward rectification property at the crossing parts being thereby improved, an increased ratio of backward resistance to forward one preventing a backward current from flowing, a leakage current being reduced, and performance can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve a recording density by providing the surface of a resist layer with a transmitted light limiting layer contg. a material to allow transmission of only the light having the intensity higher than the prescribed intensity, exposing this resist layer via this layer and enabling formation of extremely small phase pits beyond the limitation by lambda/NA. CONSTITUTION:The resist layer 2 is first formed on a transparent glass substrate 1 by applying a photoresist thereon by a spin coating method, etc., in order to produce an optical master disk. Saturable dyestuff is likewise applied by a spin coating method, etc., on the layer 2, by which the transmitted light limitation layer 3 is formed. The substrate 1 provided with these layers 2, 3 is exposed by using an optical recorder (cutting machine) using a laser beam 11. Namely, the laser beam L emitted from a laser beam source 11 is reflected by a mirror 12 and is made incident on an electro-optic modulator 13. The laser beam L modulated in the intensity is reflected by mirrors 15, 16 and is converged by passing an objective lens 14, by which a spot is generated on the layer 2. The substrate 1 is rotated and the lens 14 and the mirror 16 are moved in the diametral direction of the substrate 1 by a moving mechanism, by which the phase pits are concentrically or spirally formed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the tertiary nonlinear optical characteristic by forming an org. nonlinear optical material film to be laminated on a substrate with a laminated film of plural monomolecular layers contg. a specified cyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:An org. nonlinear optical material film to be laminated on a substrate is formed with a laminated film of plural monomolecular layers contg. a cyanine dye shown by the formula. Such an org. nonlinear optical material film is formed by the Langmuir-Blodgett's technique (LB technique) so that the cyanine dye molecules in the film are associated. A glass or quartz substrate is used as the substrate, the substrate surface is made hydrophobic with a silane coupling agent, and then the film is laminated. Since the substrate surface is hydrophobic, the lamination is started when the substrate is lowered. Accordingly, the substrate is raised and lowered at the speed of 3 to 10-mm/min to form the thin film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the recording density of an optical recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A layer 2 contg. at least a saturable absorbing dye is disposed on the pattern forming surface of a transparent substrate 1 with a formed recording pattern. The molecular extinction coefft. epsilon of the dye at the wavelength of light for reproduction is regulated to >=10 and the relaxation time tauregulated to 1-100ns. A reflecting layer 3 having >=70% reflectance at the interface between the layer 3 and the air may further be disposed on the layer 2. The thickness of the layer 2 may be regulated so as to minimize the intensity of reflected light due to interference to the intensity of light for reproduction and a naphthalocyanine dye may be used as the dye in the layer 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the nonlinear optical element which has high wavelength conversion element and has multilayered films of inverted bipoles by widening the selectivity of materials and improving thermal and mechanical stability. CONSTITUTION:This nonlinear optical element has the multilayered structure formed with a first layer 1 and second layer 2 respectively consisting of nonlinear optical materials on a substrate 10 consisting of light transmissive glass, etc. Arrows d1 to d4 (or d11 to d14) respectively show the directions of the bipole moments of the respective layers and the respective layers are so laminated that these directions are counter-paralleled with each other with respect to the film thickness direction. Then, such trouble that the bipole moments of the respective layers adjacent to each other of the multilayered films are reversed during the formation of oriented films is averted and the nonlinear optical element having the inverted multilayered film constitution is stably obtd. The extremely higher conversion efficiency than the conversion efficiency of the nonlinear optical element of the single-layered film constitution is obtd. in the case, for example, a second harmonic wave generating element is obtd. by forming the element into the multilayered film structure in such a manner.

CONSTITUTION:The organic nonlinear optical material us represented by formula I and the built-up molecular films (LB) films are laminated on a substrate, and it us the MNA alkyl chain derivative made by substituting >=19C long alkyl on the amino group. It is important to increase the carbon number to >=19 to execute the LB method, thus permitting the balance between the hydrophilicness and hydrophobicness of the MNA to be improved and facilitated for building up molecular films as the LB films. If the carbon number is smaller than 19, hydrophobicness becomes insufficient and difficult to laminate such films.
