    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable ester interchange reaction of a dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester with an alkylene glycol in short time and high stability, by performing he reaction in a reaction system under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure and discharging the alkylene glycol out of the system. CONSTITUTION:Dialkyl ester of 1,2-bis(chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid is subjected to ester interchange reaction with an alkylene glycol under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, preferably under 0.1-3kg/cm G pressure. After the completion of the reaction, the pressure of the reaction system is lowered preferably to G and remaining alkylene glycol is discharged from the system to obtain bis(beta-hydroxyalkyl)-1,2-bis (chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dica-rboxyl ate or its oligomer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film, which has high Young's modulus and is excellent in high-speed slitting, by a method wherein polyester containing specified components is biaxially oriented and heat-treated so as to set the density, the change of thickness and the friction coefficient of a resultant film at specified values respectively. CONSTITUTION:In a film consisting of polyester, the major component of which is carboxylic acid residue and ethylene glycol residue represented by a structural unit I, which contains at least one kind out of carboxylic acid residues represented by structural units II and III and the molar ratio of said residues of which satisfies the formula represented at the lowermost line, its density lies within the range of 1.44-1.50g/cm , the change of its thicknesses in width direction is 15% or less and its friction coefficient lies within the range of 0.5-4.0. Because the film, which has high Young's modulus and is excellent in slitting at high speed, the film can be thinned and consequently the miniaturization of magnetic tape and capacitor can be contrived.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain biaxially oriented polyester film improved in slitting property by adding specified additive agent to polyester containing a specified repetition unit. CONSTITUTION:When biaxially oriented polyester film is obtained, 0.005- 2pts.wt. at least one kind of chemical compounds composed mainly of higher fatty monocarboxylic acid with 10-33 carbonic atoms, its ester, its amido or its metallic salt is contained in 100pts.wt. of polyester containing 50mol%min. of repetition unit indicated by the general formula. In this film the reflective index ranges from 1.50-1.57 in the thickness direction and the density ranges from 1.45-1.50. Biaxially oriented polyester film obtained in this way is adequate for magnetic tape or condenser base film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To elevate the flatness, smoothness and adhesivity of the surface by arranging fine particles with a specified diameter and a specified higher fat acid to be contained in a specified content respectively while the surface roughness and the coefficient of static friction are within a specified range. CONSTITUTION:0.05-2pts.wt. of fine particles with the average size of 0.05-3mum and 0.05-2pts.wt. of a compound mainly composed of monocarboxylic acid, as higher fat ester or ester thereof having C10-33 are contained in 100pts.wt. of polyester. The surface roughness Ra shall be 0.01-0.025mum and the coefficient of static friction 0.3-1. The fine particles herein used may be inactive particles and organic particles insoluble in polyester or the like as well. The compound composed of monocarboxylic acid as higher fat which may be used includes capric acid, lauric acid and stearic acid. Aboveall, monocarboxylic acid as higher fat having C20-32 features the potentiality of improving easy-to-smooth property. The compound composed of ester monocarboxylate as higher fat may be those such as montanic acid ethylene glycolester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled slurry which has good affinity with polymers and can be easily finely divided and in which the quantity of particles can be controlled, by dissolving a reaction mixture contg. a precipitate in ethylene glycol and heating the mixture to re-precipitate fine particles. CONSTITUTION:Terephthalic acid and/or its derivative such as dimethyl terephthalate, a Ca compd. such as calcium acetate monohydrate and ethylene glycol are reacted together in ethylene glycol at a temp. in the range of from 100 deg.C to the b.p. of ethylene glycol to form terephthalic acid and/or its derivative. The reaction mixture is diluted with ethylene glycol or cooled to 40 deg.C or below. Alternatively, the reaction mixture is diluted with ethylene glycol and cooled to 40 deg.C or below to dissolve a precipitate in the reaction mixture. While using a dispersion means, the temperature of the reaction mixture is elevated to re- precipitate fine particles, thus producing the titled slurry. A polyester contg. fine particles obtd. by adding the lubricant slurry is particularly suitable for use in producing a base film for magnetic tape, for which surface smoothness and slipperiness are required.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polyester excellent in transparency and low in acetaldehyde content, by heat-treating a polyethylene terephthalate prepolymer having specifed properties, thereby enhancing its crystalinity and then subjecting the prepolymer to solid-phase polymerization. CONSTITUTION:In carrying out a polycondensation reaction subsequent to esterification of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol, an antimony compound and/or a germanium compound are used as a catalyst. A polyethylene terephthalate prepolymer, intrinsic viscosity >=0.5, is prepared having a residual phosphorus content P (ppm), a residual antimony content Sb (ppm), a residual germanium content Ge (ppm) and a diethylene glycol component content DEG (wt. %) which satisfy the respective relationships. The purpose polyester is obtained by heat- treating the prepolymer to enhance its crystallinity to above 50% and Subjecting continuous solid-phase polymerization at a temperature of 190 deg.C- m.p. under a stream of inert gas.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled chip having low acetaldehyde content and excellent moldability, etc., and suitable for the blow molding, by subjecting polyethylene terephthalate chips to the multi-stage heat-pretreatment under specific conditions, and carrying out the continuous solid-phase polymerization. CONSTITUTION:Polyethylene terephthalate chips are fed to the heating vessel 7 furnished with a stirring means through the inlet pipe 1 while introducing hot air having a temperature of T1 deg.C and satisfying the formulaI(Tg and Tm are the glass transition point and the melting point of the polyethylene terephthalate, respectively), the formula T0 =30min, the chips are fed to the heating vessel 11 from its top, and an inert gas of T2 deg.C and satisfying the formula III is introduced into the vessel 11 from its bottom 3 to effect the heat treatment of the chips for >=30min. The heat-treated chips are discharged through the bottom valve 12, and finally transferred continuously to a moving- bed solid-phase polymerization apparatus 13 under the flow of an inert gas at T3 deg.C and satisfying the formula IV to allow the solid-phase polymerization.
