Abstract: The resins consist of a mixt. of (A) 1-30 wt.% of >=1 satd. polyester with free terminal -OH gps., and (B) 70-99 wt.% of a reaction prod. of (A) with a polycarboxylic anhydride contg. >=2 anhydride gps. Suitable anhydrides are those of pyromellitic and perylene tetracarboxylic acids. Reaction wioth (A) is at 90-220 degrees C, pref. in the melt at 150-200 degrees C. The resins are suitable as binders in moulded articles, coatings impregnants and adhesives. They are self-crosslinking without addn. of melamine, urea or epoxy resins or isocyanates. The resins are esp. suitable for use in stoving lacquers for coating substrates such as deep drawn sheet, galvanised sheet, Al and Cu. giving films with good gloss and adhesion.

Abstract: The binder comprises (A) a (meth)acrylate of (a) 10-90 wt.% >=1 acrylte of a 1-20C alcohol (b) 90-10 wt.% >=1 methacrylate with 1-6C alcohols and/or vinyl aromatics and (C) 2-50 wt.% olefinically unsatd. monomer (not (a) or (b)) (a) + (b) being 100%, (B) a condensate of melamine, benzoguanamine and/or urea and formaldehyde and (B) a binder of softening pt. 60-120 degrees C melt viscosity (at 120 degrees C) 300-10000P its viscosity not reaching >10000P after 3 mins. at 120 degrees C. The powder coatings produced from this binder are used for metal parts e.G. steel and have low firing temps. high gloss and elasticity. The amt. of (A) is 50-96 wt.% of (B) 4-50 wt.% and of (C) =15 wt.%.
