    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obviate defective cleaning and to obtain a toner which forms sharp images without deteriorating image quality even at the time of continuous copying of multiple sheets by incorporating an aliphat. acid metal salt into a polymerizable monomer and polymerizing the monomer. CONSTITUTION:This toner is obtd. by adding the metal salt of the fatty acid, more particularly the aluminum salt of the higher fatty acid to the polymerizable monomer with and into which a coloring agent, electrostatic charge control agent and other necessary toner characteristic improving agents are mixed and dispersed, then subjecting such monomer to suspension polymn. Since the toner obtd. in such a manner has itself the excellent cleanability, the cleaning defect which is heretofore not completely prevented by an ordinary method of adding a cleaning assistant externally into the toner or developer is prevented and the possibility of filming of the cleaning agent itself on a photosensitive body and accumulation thereof into the developer is eliminated. The excellent cleanability is thereby obtd. and the sharp images are always obtd. without deteriorating the image quality even at the time of continuous copying of many sheets.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer free from discoloration and offensive odor, useful for such applications as scale inhibitors, pigment dispersants or binders, by ultraviolet irradiation on water-soluble vinyl monomer(s) in the presence of bisulfite ion. CONSTITUTION:When at least one kind of water-soluble vinyl monomer (e.g., acrylic acid, methacryloyloxyethyl triethylammonium chloride) is to be polymerized in an aqueous catalyst (e.g., water or water spiked with methanol, THF or dioxane), ultraviolet beams are irradiated, pref. at pH of 4-8 and 10-60 deg.C, in the presence of 0.1-30mol% based on said monomer, of bisulfite ion, to obtain the objective low-molecular weight water-soluble polymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an antibacterial agent which can be used in the disinfection and sterilization of the skin, hair, clothes, etc., or as an additive for detergent, by using an active component consisting of a water-soluble vinyl polymer having specific pendant pyridinium group and having excellent properties from the viewpoint of industry and environmental sanitation. CONSTITUTION:The objective antibacterial agent contains, as an active component, a water-soluble vinyl polymer having pendant pyridinium group of formula [R is 1-18C (substituted)alkyl or 6-18C (substituted)aryl; Z is halogen ion, halogenite ion, nitrate ion, phosphate ion or alkylsulfate ion] (especially preferably a polymer containing the pendant pyridinium group in an amount of equivalent per 1g of the water-soluble vinyl polymer, containing the recurring unit of formula II, having a molecular weight of 5X10 -1X10 and expressed by the formula wherein R is benzyl). The antibacterial agent may be used in the form of a solution to be applied to textile or molded article.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve triboelectrifiability and moisture resistance of the toner by dispersing a charge controlling agent and a coloring agent in a polymerizable monomer in an aqueous medium, followed by effecting a suspension polymerization of the obtd. dispersion in presence of 1 kind or >=2 kinds of specific sulfosuccinic acid diesters. CONSTITUTION:The coloring agent such as carbon black etc., the charge controlling agent and an another necessary improver of the toner are mixed in the polymerizable monomer, followed by dispersing the obtd. mixture in presence of the aqueous solution contg. 1 kind or >=2 kinds of the specific sulfosuccinic acid diesters shown by formulas I-IV. Subsequently, the obtd. dispersion is polymerized in a nitrogen atmosphere at a decomposition temp. of a polymerization initiator. In the formula, R1 is 1-36C a straight chain or a branched chain alkyl group or an alkyl phenyl group having alkenyl group, etc., R2 is alkyl, methacryl or 1-12C alkyl group, A is 2-4C alkylene group, (n) is an integer of 0-100, M is mono or divalent cation, (m) is an ionic valency of M. Thus, the toner having an excellent moisture resistance is obtd.
