Abstract:
The present invention comprises novel single-functional and mixtures of multi-functional oligomeric performance additive compounds having one or more components of Structure A (The definitions of R, Z1, Z2, Z3, A1, A2, A3 and y are given in the Summary Section), their uses and polymeric compounds and compositions containing them which have enhanced oxidative stabilities, enhanced ultraviolet (UV) and light stabilities and/or enhanced flame retardance. An example is the bis sulfonic acid bispotassium salt reaction product from an oligomeric caprolactone diol (TONE® 260), 2-sulfobenzoic acid anhydride and potassium carbonate, and use of this product, at levels up to about 3.0%, in a general purpose bisphenol A polycarbonate resin, to enhance the fire resistance or flame retardance of the polycarbonate resin.
Abstract:
There are provided reactive hindered amine light stabilizers of the formula wherein R is e.g., hydrogen, hydroxyl or alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons; R 1 is, hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1 to 4 carbons; R 2 is, e.g., hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons; R 3 is, e.g., a direct bond or an alkylene or branched alkylene diradical of 1 to 14 carbons; and R 4 is, e.g., hydrogen or a primary or secondary alkyl group of 1 to 8 carbons, containing a light stabilizing group, a heat stabilizing group, and a reactive hydrazide functionality in the same molecule. The reactive stabilizers are prepared by reacting 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidines with diesters (or mono ester acid chlorides) of dicarboxylic acids followed by hydrazinolysis of the ester group of the intermediate mono ester-amide. The compounds are useful for introducing permanent heat and light stability to coreactive polymers or copolymers.
Abstract:
Polymeric flame retardants comprise halogenated aromatic compounds having acylamino functional groups which are chemically bonded to cyclic imide-containing or imide-forming polymers or copolymers, which polymeric flame retardants have, e.g., the following Formula 1 or II: in which the units occur, e.g., in the polymer backbone; R1 and R2 are, e.g., hydrogen; and G is a flame retardant group attached to the unit by an acylamino functional group having linked thereto a halogenated aromatic ring. The polymeric flame retardants are prepared by the reaction of halogenated aromatics containing a reactive hydrazido group with some or all of the anhydride groups of an cyclic alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride polymer or copolymer to form pendant halogenated-aromatic-substituted imide or amic acid groups. In addition, polymeric flame retardants are used to render thermoplastic resins less flammable under conditions which promote combustion. Novel flame retardant hydrazides are disclosed.
Abstract:
What is described herein is a liquid U.V. stabilizer composition and process for effectively surface modifying a PVC resinous body to provide a stabilizing amount of U.V. stabilizer within the surface region of the body within a predetermined solution contact time without leaving an appreciable amount of solvent therein or stabilizer on the surface of the body, and without affecting the surface appearance of the modified surface of the body. In one form of the invention, the U.V. stabilizer composition comprises about 10 to 50 wt/vol%, preferably 15 to 35 wt/vol%, of a U.V. stabilizer dissolved in a mixture of methylene chloride and a liquid fluorochloro hydrocarbon. Suitably the methylene chloride component of the solvent mixture comprises about 40 to 99%, preferably about 50 to 85%, and the fluorochloro hydrocarbon component comprises about 1 to 60%, preferably about 15 to 50%, of the solvent mixture. A preferred fluorochloro hydrocarbon is 1,1,2-trifluoro-1,2,2-trichloroethylene.
Abstract:
A solvent-free, reactive, moisture curable, hot melt applied polyurethane pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition is provided, as are methods for making the same and for using this composition to bond substrates, as well as a stable urethane prepolymer and methods for making the same.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a composition of organotin maleates of high molecular weight resulting from reacting an alcohol or an epoxyalkane of high molecular weight with maleic anhydride, then in contacting the resulting medium with a dialkyltin oxide. The invention also concerns the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) stabilised with said composition with base of organotin maleates of high molecular weight and the rigid extruded objects formed from said PVC compositions.
