Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the treatment of a plant fluid effluent containin g odor compounds including an alkyl mercaptan or an alkyl thiol, an amine compound, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and mixtures thereof by contacting the plant effluent in either a counterflow or cocurrent flow process. In the process, the effluent is contacted with an aqueous solution comprising a peracid compound and optionally an essential oil. When contacted with the peracid, odor compounds in the efflue nt are oxidized and converted from the gaseous phase into a chemically modified highly aqueous soluble phase in the aqueous treatment. I n this way, odor removal from the gas is preferred and odor compounds are efficiently transferred into the aqueous treatment solution. T he use of such a process produces a significant improvement in odor quality index as measured by a conventional process using an expert pan el when compared to conventional treatment methods.

Abstract: A method for antimicrobial treatment (e.g. antimicrobial treatment of food packaging and equipment) comprising applying to microbes a composition containing a diluting solvent (e.g., water), an antimicrobially-active solvent having a density different from the density of the diluting solvent, and an optional cosolvent, surfactant, or additional antimicrobial agent, wherein the amount of antimicrobially-active solvent or additional antimicrobial agent is sufficiently high and the amount of cosolvent or surfactant is sufficiently low so that the composition will provide greater than a 1-log order reduction in the population of bacteria or spores of Bacillus cereus within 10 seconds at 60° C. Preferred methods of the invention employ compositions containing an additional antimicrobial agent such as peroxyacetic acid. Compositions for use in the method can be prepared as concentrates, and used full strength or in diluted form.

Abstract: A floor finish is provided including a film former, a lightness inducing agent, and a diluent. The floor finish composition includes a film former, a lightness inducing agent, and a diluent, with the lightness inducing agent being included in an amount sufficient for the composition to provide, when evaluated using a hardened finish having a thickness of about 0.005 mm on a LENETA Form 5C Opacity chart and a MINISCAN XE Plus color spectrophotometer having 45~ illumination and a 0~ viewing geometry (a) an increased lightness value L* on the black portion of the chart and (b) a contrast ratio (CR080) less than about 0.7 when evaluated on the black and white portions of the chart. Laminates, methods for treating a floor, and kits are also provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process of using peracid compositions, especially mixed peracid system, to treat filed, hydroponic or greenhouse growing plant tissue, seeds, fruits, growing media and containers. The peracid can lower the natural, plant pathogen and human pathogenic microbial load resulting in less waste to molding, spoilage, and destruction because of pathogenic poisons.

Abstract: The invention is a process for preventing microbial growth in aqueous streams by applying a C2-C12 percarboxylic acid or mixture of such acids to the aqueous stream and to an automated dispensing system for the percarboxylic acids based on a correlation between oxidation-reduction-potential and anti-microbial levels of the aqueous stream. Generally, the process of the invention is applicable to aqueous streams used in any number of applications such as the application of streams for the transport of food products, e.g. fruits or vegetables, into the processing environment and through the various steps of processing.
