The present invention is directed to a class of polymer comprising an ethylene alpha-olefin interpolymer having a set of chemical-physical properties rendering it particularly suitable as the "polymer backbone" for production of dispersants of high active ingredient concentrations which active ingredients have improved properties. The ethylene alpha-olefin interpolymer of this invention comprises that class of ethylene alpha-olefin interpolymer which have a number average molecular weight of from about 300 to about 10,000; at least 90% of the polymer chains contain a unit of unsaturation and the ratio of ethenylidene (also termed a "vinylidene") units, to ethenyl (also termed "vinyl") units in the polymer composition is at least 3.5:1, preferably at least about 10:1.

Disclosed is composition useful for reducing the concentration of mercaptans in hydrocarbons comprising: (A) a first diazo component and (B) a second component comprising a nucleophilic acceptor. The composition can be added to hydrocarbons such as fuel oil to reduce mercaptans without increasing turbidity or color. Triethylene diamine and 1,2-epoxyhexadecane are disclosed to be exemplary diazo and nucleophilic acceptor components.

The invention relates to tropospheric volume elements enriched with vital elements and/or protective substances and to a method for their production and use. The vital elements cover those substances that promote the development of living components of the terrestrial biosphere and the protective substances cover those substances that directly or indirectly help to prevent harmful effects on the terrestrial biosphere and in particular on mankind. The inventive tropospheric volume elements are enriched with vital elements and/or protective substances. Tropospheric volume elements in the form of polluted clouds, which can escape as a result of damage to installations, are enriched with protective substances, which prevent the absorption of radioactive elements by an organism, minimise the extent of the areas polluted by the cloud and in addition exhibit warning and identification functions. The enriched tropospheric volume elements can have numerous positive effects, the most important being: climate cooling and stabilisation, increase in food production, production of methane hydrate and kerogen as renewable energy sources, reduction of atmospheric pollution, increase in precipitation, reduction of the damage and number of victims, caused in particular by nuclear reactor accidents.

An additive composition for use in internal combustion engines and which can be added to the fuel or lubricating oil comprises a silicone oil and an organic titanium compound such as an organic titanate, optionally with a solvent and lubricating oil, the additive composition reduces valve and valve gear wear with lead free fuels, improves exhaust emission quality and decreases engine wear.

The effectiveness is prolonged for catalytic oxidizers to reduce emissions of both HC and CO from two-stroke gasoline engines. A compound of a platinum group metal is added to the cylinder of the engine to make it available as an active oxidation catalyst by combustion of the fuel. Preferably, the platinum group metal compound is added with the lubricating oil, but can be added to the fuel or through a separate injection.

The additive is suitable as an ashless cleaning agent that is excellent in high-temperature stability and can substitute for metallic cleaning agents. The lubricant or fuel composition containing the same is suitable as an internal-combustion engine lubricant or fuel capable of coping with future severe exhaust gas regulation.
