Abstract: 1312051 Coating A E STALEY MFG CO 15 April 1970 [28 April 1969 21 Oct 1969] 17955/70 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A coating composition comprises a latex of a copolymer of (a) 70-95% vinylidene chloride, (b) 0.5-30% of a hydroxyalkyl ester of an alpha-beta ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, (c) 0.3-3% of sulphoalkyl ester of an α, #-ethylenically unsaturated acid, (d) 0-5% of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and (e) up to 29.5% of a different monomer free from acid or hydroxyalkyl groups. In the examples the latices are obtained by emulsion polymerisation using a seed latex from vinylidene chloride and (b) hydroxyethyl acrylate or hydroxypropyl methacrylate (c) sodio 2-sulphoethyl methacrylate, (d) acrylic acid and (e) methyl acrylate. The products are used to coat corona discharge treated polypropylene and unprimed polyethylene.

Abstract: A nutritious vegetable seed solubles binder for animal feed blocks. The subject vegetable seed solubles contains about 80% by weight carbohydrate and up to about 24% protein on a dry substance basis. The new binder may be used as a complete or partial replacement for cane molasses as a binder in animal feed blocks, including those such as molasses/salt blocks, medicated feed blocks and high protein feed blocks. The subject vegetable seed solubles may also be combined with soybean hulls, bagasse or such similar material to make an ingredient which is then used to make animal feed blocks. The subject binder has proven especially useful for binding a high energy protein block. The resulting block is more easily formed, and the binder contributes a resilient flexible effect to the block. Such blocks not only weather better outdoors, but they also are consumed more uniformly over a longer period of time by the livestock. The presently preferred binder is condensed soybean solubles which is a by-product from the manufacture of soy protein concentrate by a hexane/aqueous alcohol extraction process. Other vegetable seed solubles binders can also be used, including the vegetable seed solubles from other soybean processes, cottonseed, rapeseed, sesame seed, safflower seed, sunflower seed, peanuts, maize, yellow field pea and horse bean. A typical feed block made according to the subject invention may include a combination of the following ingredients: dried steep liquor concentrate (DSLC), soybean meal, salt, condensed soybean solubles, animal fat, dicalcium phosphate, minerals, and vitamins.

Abstract: The invention relates to starch acrylamides containing polymerizable pendant acrylamide groups. The hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties of the starch can be altered or modified by the acrylamide groups or the type of starch chain. The starch acrylamides can be homopolymerized or copolymerized with other ethylenically unsaturated monomers as well as other cross-linking reagents to provide water-resistant, clear, flexible coatings or shaped articles. The hydrophilic starch acrylamide hydrolyzates herein readily disperse into water at a high solids level to provide low-viscosity pastes which may be used as a vehicle to prepare flexible, water-insoluble starch-based coatings. The starch acrylamides may be prepared by etherifying a starch with N-methylol acrylamides in the presence of an acid catalyst and a polymerization inhibitor.

Abstract: PROCEDIMIENTO PARA AUMENTAR LA SOLUBILIDAD EN SECO DE UN PRODUCTO PROTEICO VEGETAL. CONSISTE EN: 1) INTRODUCIR EN UN HOMOGENEIZADOR CENTRIFUGO UNA CORRIENTE ACUOSA DE SEMILLA VEGETAL QUE CONTIENE POR LO MENOS EL 30 POR 100 EN PESO DE PROTEINA DE SEMILLA VEGETAL (CONSTITUIDA POR PROTEINA DE SOJA Y COMO BASE DE UN HIDROXIDO METALICO ALCALINO) Y UNA CANTIDAD DE BASE SUFICIENTE PARA MANTENER LA CORRIENTE DENTRO DEL HOMOGENEIZADOR CON UN PH COMPRENDIDO ENTRE 6,5 Y 9,0. 2) SOMETER A LA CORRIENTE ACUOSA A CICLOS SUCESIVOS DE PRESION Y CAVITACION, A UNA TEMPERATURA COMPRENDIDA ENTRE 50 Y 150GC. 3) RECUPERAR EL PRODUCTO PROTEICO VEGETAL CON UNA MAYOR SOLUBILIDAD EN AGUA.

Abstract: The invention encompasses intermediate, starch-containing products in which the starch thickening capacity is inhibited by an aqueous dispersant system. These intermediate products can be readily converted into a starch thickened end-product by combining the intermediate product with additives which dissipate the inhibitory effect of the aqueous dispersant. The intermediate products may be provided as a concentrate which contains cold-water swelling starch granules suspended in an aqueous media adapted to effectively maintain the starch granules in an unswollen form. The intermediate products may be suitably formulated with all the desired recipe ingredients except the amount of water needed to convert it into a starch thickened end-product.

Abstract: 1,268,081. Enzyme composition; starch conversion syrups. A. E. STALEY MFG. CO. 8 Aug., 1969 [26 Aug., 1968], No. 39803/69. Headings C3H and C3U. An enzyme composition comprises a mixture of diastase, glucoamylase and amylo-1,6-glucosidase having an ability to saccharify starch to a syrup having a minimum dextrose equivalent value of 68%, a minimum fermentable extract of 77% and a maximum dextrose content of 47 %; diastase is defined as an enzyme capable of hydrolysing starch to maltose and higher saccharides, and includes inter alia α-amylase, #-amylase and barley malt. The three enzymes may alternatively be added to the starch sequentially. Diastase containing α- and #- amylase may be obtained from fungi, barley malt or animal sources; α-amylase may also be obtained from bacteria or Aspergillus oryzae; the gluco-amylase must be free from transglucosidase; the α-1,6-glucosidase may be obtained from Aerobacter aerogencs.
