Abstract:
Method and apparatus of controlling a power state of a computer, the computer being connected to a monitor having a power control button. The computer is connected to the monitor over a video cable, and activation of the power control button is communicated to the computer over a wire in the video cable. In response to the activation signal, a system management interrupt is generated to invoke an SMI handler to change the power state of the computer. The power states of the computer include an ON state, an intermediate power state (such as Sleep state), and a suspend state (such as Soft-Off state).
Abstract:
A light projection engine apparatus uses a wide angle reflecting polarizer material (preferably 3M DBEF brand double brightness enhancement filter) as a polarizing beamsplitter to direct polarized light to beam splitter/combiner (such as an X▲cube diachroic reflector). The beam splitter/combiner then splits the directed polarized light into separate reflective LCD panels acting as light valves. The LCD panels alter the polarity of the incident light from 0 degrees up to 90 degrees to control which light is passes from the wide angle reflecting polarizer back towards the light source and which light has the necessary polarization change to allow it to pass from the wide angle reflecting polarizer to the lens system. After reflecting off of the LCD panels, the light goes back through the X-cube diachroic reflector, where it is recombined. The recombined light which is of a first polarity is transmitted from the reflecting polarizer to the lens system, while the recombined light which is ofa second polarity is transmitted to the light source. The LCDs are preferably analog polarizing LCDs.
Abstract:
According to the present invention, an apparatus having a plurality of independently operable and powerable devices is disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of power rails, a second plurality of ground planes, and a power management circuit. One of the power rails is associated with one of the plurality of independently operable devices. One of the plurality of ground planes is selectively associated with one or more of the plurality of power rails. The power management circuit couples to the plurality of power rails and the second plurality of ground planes, for selectively deactivating at least one of the plurality of ground planes independently of any of the other plurality of power rails.
Abstract:
A system providing an integrated picture quality control environment is disclosed. The system includes first and second sets of picture quality controls. The first set of picture quality controls is capable of controlling a picture signal at a first location, while the second set of picture quality controls is capable of controlling the picture signal at a second location. To prevent conflict between the controls at the first and second locations, a means for integrating the first and second set of picture quality controls is utilized such that the generation of control signals by either of the first and second set of picture quality controls only affects a picture signal at a single preselected location.
Abstract:
A electronic convergence device system comprising a computer for generating indications of a first mode of operation and for generating indications of a second mode of operation, and an output device coupled to the computer to receive the indications of the first and second modes of operation, which output device is provided for at least alternately outputting the indications of the first and second modes of operation, based on a user/viewer selection.
Abstract:
A computer system has a plurality of devices compatible with the Fibre Channel Protocol, wherein at least two of the devices are initiators. The computer system is provided with the capability to control and manage multiple initiators configured in an Arbitrated Loop. This capability is realized by manipulating the contents in outstanding_link_services arrays associated with the initiators.
Abstract:
A display system having a computer, a video source, a graphics refresher and a display monitor, the display system comprising a first buffer for receiving a first portion of video data from the video source; a second buffer for receiving a second portion of video data from the video source; and a third buffer for receiving a third portion of video data from the video source, wherein the graphics refresher generates signals for selectively displaying one of the portions of the video data on the display monitor.
Abstract:
A laptop computer contains a built-in modem and has a phone jack for connection to a telephone line while the computer is being operated in a stand-alone mode. A docking station into which the laptop computer may be docked allows the combined unit to be operated in a desk-top mode. The docking station may have a full-sized keyboard and display so that the laptop functions as the main computer a user may employ in the office or home. A telephone connection is already in place at the docking station so that the user need not make a phone line connection to invoke the docked mode, but instead merely nests the laptop in the docking station. In one embodiment, the only components of the modem that are duplicated in the docking station are the phone jack itself and an isolation and 2-to-4 wire converter, so the plug-in connector ordinarily employed between a laptop and a docking station may be of a low-voltage, spike voltage protected form, whereby the coupling used for computer logic and control levels is compatible. The possibility of damage to computer circuits due to the proximity of high-voltage telephone line connections is thus avoided.
Abstract:
A system management module (SMM) for a host server svstem includes a system management processor (SMP) connected to a system management local bus. The system management local bus connects to the system PCI bus through a system management central (SMC). The SMC includes the main arbitration unit for the PCI bus and also includes the arbiter for the system management local bus. The SMM includes a video controller and/or keyboard and mouse controller connected to the system management local bus to support remote consoling of the SMM. The SMC includes logic to monitor PCI cycles and to issue error signals in the event of a system error. The SMC also isolates failed components by masking request grant and interrupt lines for the failed device. Further, if a spare component is provided, the SMC permits dynamic switching to the spare. In addition to detecting errors and performing survival and maintenance operations, the SMC enhances system performance during normal operations by supporting master-target priority determinations to more efficiently arbitrate mastership of system busses such as the PCI bus.
