Abstract: PURPOSE: A radiation radioprotective composition containing geraniin isolated from Nymphaea tetragona var. angusta extract fraction is provided to promote protection and recovery of hematopoietic system and to suppress oxidative cell damage. CONSTITUTION: A radiation radioprotective composition contains 0.001-10.0 weight% of geraniin as an active ingredient. The geraniin is isolated from Nymphaea tetragona var. angusta extract fraction. A method for isolating geraniin comprises: a step of preparing Nymphaea tetragona var. angusta in a powdery form and suspending with distilled water; a step of fractioning with hexane, ethyl acetoacetate, butanol, and water; a step of fractioning with methylene chloride, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, and acetone; and a step of isolating geraniin by column chromatography.
