Abstract: PURPOSE: A heat pump system for vehicles and control method thereof are provided to increase the whole mileage of the vehicle with same power by reducing cooling loads. CONSTITUTION: A heat pump system(100) for vehicles comprises a cooling unit(110), an air conditioning unit, and a heat exchanger. The cooling unit comprise a radiator(115) and a cooling fan(117). The radiator circulates coolant along a cooling line through a water pump, and cools the coolants by heat exchanging the coolant with external air. The cooling fan blows air to the radiator. The heat exchanger is connected to the cooling line, and the coolant circulates. The heat exchanger changes the temperature of the coolant by selectively using a waste heat source generated from electric component parts. Exhaust gas is sucked or discharged through an inlet(11) and outlet(13) of the case. The heat exchanger is installed inside the case. The heat exchanger heat-exchanges lubricating oil with coolants. The bypass pipe connects the inlet and the outlet inside the case, and the inflow hole(73) of the bypass pipe is formed in the inlet. The bypass pipe bypasses the exhaust gas without passing through the heat exchanger. The variable valve is installed in the bypass pipe, and guides the exhaust gas to the heat exchanger with secluding the flow of the exhaust gas passing through the bypass pipe.
