    Abstract: PURPOSE: A piston cooling system used in an internal combustion engine is provided to improve an overcooling phenomenon of a piston by stopping a cooling operation for the piston in a driving area, in which a thermal load of the piston is reduced. CONSTITUTION: A piston cooling system includes an oil pump(2). The oil pump(2) pumps engine oil contained in a crank case(4). Pumped engine oil is filtered through a filter(6) and is supplied into each engine component(10) and into an oil jet through an oil gallery(8). The oil jet sprays engine oil towards a lower portion of a piston, thereby delaying the cooling of the piston. A solenoid valve(16) is disposed at one side of a fluid passage(14). The solenoid valve(16) is controlled by an ECU(22) depending on information supplied from an engine speed sensor(18) and an accelerator pedal sensor(20).
