Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more transparent and intuitive user interface for portable devices that enable a user to configure the user interface.SOLUTION: A portable electronic device displays a plurality of icons (e.g., graphical objects) in a region in a touch-sensitive display; detects a predefined user action, with respect to the touch-sensitive display, for initiating a predefined user interface reconfiguration process; and varies positions of one or more icons in the plurality of icons in response to detecting the predefined user action, where varying the positions includes varying the positions of the one or more icons about respective average positions.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simpler, more intuitive user interface for a portable device that enables a user to access, store and manipulate a graphical object and data without memorizing key arrangement or menu hierarchies.SOLUTION: A portable communication device having a multi-touch input detects one or more multi-touch contacts and motions, and performs one or more operations on an object 112 based on the one or more multi-touch contacts and motions. When an operation is performed on the object 112, the object 112 has a resolution that is less than a predetermined threshold; otherwise, the object 112 has a resolution that is greater than the predetermined threshold.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus for determining commands by applying heuristics to user gestures detected on a touch screen display. SOLUTION: A method for determining command by applying heuristics includes the steps of: detecting one or more finger contacts with a touch screen display; applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command to a device; and processing the command. The one or more heuristics include: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command; a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command; and a heuristic for determining the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide faster and more efficient methods and interfaces for using interactive popup views in multifunction devices with touch screen displays.SOLUTION: A multifunction device: displays a respective view of a first application on a touch screen display, detects a first touch gesture within the respective view, and, in response to detecting the first touch gesture, displays a popup view of the first application partially covering the respective view of the first application. The popup view corresponds to a full-screen-width view in a corresponding first application on a second multifunction device having a touch screen display with lower resolution than the touch screen display of the first multifunction device. The device also: detects one or more second touch gestures within the popup view, and, in response to detecting the one or more second touch gestures within the popup view, performs an action in the first application that updates a state of the first application.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unlock a device having a touch-sensitive display via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display.SOLUTION: The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images for the predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unlock a device comprising a touch-sensitive display via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display.SOLUTION: The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays at least one unlock image for the predefined gesture to be performed to unlock the device. A motion to show the predefined gesture for the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may display visual cues for the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which determines a command by applying heuristics to a user gesture detected on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computing method using the touch screen display includes: a step of determining the command for the device by applying one or more heuristics to one or more finger touches on the touch screen display; and a step of processing the command. The one or more heuristics include a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a linear vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a two-dimensional screen translational movement command, and a heuristic method for determining a command for transition to displaying of respective items in an item set by the one or more finger touches and further displaying of a next item in the item set.
