Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus for determining commands by applying heuristics to user gestures detected on a touch screen display. SOLUTION: A method for determining command by applying heuristics includes the steps of: detecting one or more finger contacts with a touch screen display; applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command to a device; and processing the command. The one or more heuristics include: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command; a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command; and a heuristic for determining the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable customization of a user interface of a portable device.SOLUTION: A portable electronic device displays a plurality of icons (e.g., graphical objects) in a region in a touch-sensitive display; detects a predefined user action, with respect to the touch-sensitive display, for initiating a predefined user interface customization process; and varies positions of one or more icons in the plurality of icons in response to detecting the predefined user action. The varying includes varying the positions of the one or more icons about respective average positions.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic devices, and particularly, portable devices for photo management, such as digital photographing, photo manipulation, and e-mailing photos.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a computer-implemented method in which a portable electronic device displays an array of thumbnail images corresponding to a set of photographic images. The device replaces the displayed array of thumbnail images with a user-selected photographic image upon detecting a user contact with a corresponding thumbnail image in the array. The user-selected photographic image is displayed at a larger scale than the corresponding thumbnail image. The portable device displays a different photographic image in replacement of the user-selected photographic image in accordance with a scrolling gesture. The scrolling gesture comprises a substantially horizontal movement of a user contact with the touch screen display.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user with a more efficient procedure easy for the user to understand for unlocking a device, a touch screen and/or an application and further with a sensible feedback about a progress state in the direction of satisfying a user input condition required to perform shifting.SOLUTION: The present invention includes: a step 204 for displaying an image on a touch sensitive display while a device is in a user interface lock state; a step 208 for sensing contact with the touch sensitive display; a step 214 for shifting the device to a user interface unlock state in the case that the sensed contact corresponds to the movement of the image to a prescribed position on the touch sensitive display; and a step 212 for holding the device in the user interface lock state in the case that the sensed contact does not correspond to the movement of the image to the prescribed position.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable multifunction device accompanying a more transparent and intuitive user interface for instant messaging.SOLUTION: Portable electronic equipment for instant messaging is disclosed. One embodiment includes a graphic user interface (GUI) of the portable electronic equipment accompanying touch screen display. The GUI has a set of messages to be exchanged between a user of the equipment and another individual. The set of messages is displayed in a chronological order. In response to detection of a scroll gesture consisting of substantial vertical movement of user contact with the touch screen display, display of the messages is scrolled based on a direction of the scroll gesture. The detection of the scroll gesture is substantially independent of a horizontal position of the user contact with the touch screen display.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simulate multi-point gesture input by a computer system using a single pointing device. SOLUTION: Simulation software can receive single pointing inputs such as input from a mouse and convert them into simulated multi-point gesture inputs such as finger pinches, reverse pinches, translation and rotation. This simulation software enables a user to use keyboard keys to perform additional control when generating multi-point gesture inputs. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To unlock a device comprising a touch-sensitive display via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display.SOLUTION: The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays at least one unlock image for the predefined gesture to be performed to unlock the device. A motion to show the predefined gesture for the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may display visual cues for the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device which determines a command by applying heuristics to a user gesture detected on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computing method using the touch screen display includes: a step of determining the command for the device by applying one or more heuristics to one or more finger touches on the touch screen display; and a step of processing the command. The one or more heuristics include a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a linear vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic method for determining that the one or more finger touches correspond to a two-dimensional screen translational movement command, and a heuristic method for determining a command for transition to displaying of respective items in an item set by the one or more finger touches and further displaying of a next item in the item set.
