    Abstract: Laying of tiles by means of a tile adhesive based on a polymer emulsion and customary additives, containing a compound of the general formula I as thickener where R = a radical of a 2- to 6-hydric alcohol of from 2 to 10 carbon atoms, attached by oxygen, R = an alkyl, alkoxymethyl or alkenyloxymethyl radical or a mixture of these radicals, each having from 16 to 30 carbon atoms in the alkyl, alkoxy or alkenyloxy radical, A = -CH2CH2-O- (=EO) alone or mixed with where at least 50 mol %, preferably at least 70 mol % of A is -CH2CH2O-, x = 12 to 500, y = an average (averaged over numerous molecules) from 0.3 to 5, preferably from 0.5 to 2, n = an integer from 2 to 6.

    Abstract: Materials (I) which are curable with atmospheric oxygen contain as main components (A) the reaction prod. of (a) a copolymer (II) and (b) a cpd. (III) with an NH or OH gp. contg. unit(s) of formula (IIIa, b or c), and (B) 0.1-5 wt.% (w.r.t. A + B) of a transition metal soap; (II) is a copolymer of (a1) 30-90 wt.% up to 22C (meth)acrylate ester, up to 20C vinyl carboxylate and/or 3-33C vinyl ether, (a2) 2-30 wt.% olefinic monomer contg. a carboxylic anhydride gp. and (a3) 0-40 wt.% other olefinic comonomers; (I) are produced by copolymerising the above comonomers, reacting (II) with (III) and mixing the prod. with (B). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful as sealants or adhesives (claimed) (I) are easily and quickly produced; they have good adhesion to wood, glass, plastics, masonry, etc., and are cured by atmospheric oxygen; the cured prods. are highly flexible and elastic; they are readily painted over and are highly resistant to weathering.

    Abstract: Aq. dispersions (I) are used as heat-sealing adhesives, polymer component of (I) comprising (A) 15-70% (all pts.wt.), on (A) + (B), first soln. polymer (B) 30-85%, on (A) + (B), second soln. polymer and obtainable by (1) polymerisation of components of (A) and (B) in organic soln. (2) dispersion of organic soln. of (A) and (B), or of combined organic solns. of (A) and (B), in water with addn. of NH3. (3) removal by distn. of organic solvent to concn. less than 5% on (I). (A) is copolymer of (A1) 1.5-15%, on (A), at least one monomer 1 which is 3-5C alpha, beta-ethylenically unsatd. mono- or di-carboxylic acid, anhydride thereof, or half ester of such dicarboxylic acid with 1-8C alkanol or glycol monoether. (A2) 35-98.5%, on (A), at least one acrylate and/or methacrylate of 1-10C alkanol. (A3) 0-50%, on (A), one or more vinyl aromatic monomers (A4) 0-10%, on (A), one or more other, copolymerisable monomers. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prepn. of packaging, partic. blister packaging with PVC on carton or cardboard. (I) remain resistant to blocking even at relatively high temp. and are heat-sealable at relatively low temp.
